Latches, sliding, preventing operation of.-A vehicle door latch is operated by an outside follower and by an inside remotely positioned lever, the outside follower being blocked by a sliding piece released by the inside lever and by an outside lock mechanism. The latch 2 is operated from the outside by the follower 10 in the usual way when the blocking piece 12 is pulled clear by the rod 16 passing through the garnish rail 17 or by the revolving barrel lock 21. The latch is operated from inside by the remote lever 31 through the links 26, 22. The link 22 has a cam-face 24 which co-operates with a cam-ended projection 14 on the blocking piece 12 to lift this piece out of the path of the follower 10 when the lever 31 is employed to withdraw the latch-bolt. A spring 19 engages a pair of notches 18 on the blocking piece to hold it in adjusted position. When the blocking piece is pushed down by the lock 21 and the key removed, release can only be effected by the re-insertion of the key to permit turning of the barrel. The links 22, 26 and lever 31 are kept from rattling by a spring 24<a> which protrudes from the U-shaped cover-plate 32.
