Abstract

A cleaner head for a floor cleaner comprises a housing, first and second cleaning rollers 30 mounted for rotation within a housing and a floor type sensor 50. The first and second rollers are parallel to one another and the floor type sensor is located between the first and second rollers. The floor type sensor preferably comprises a light emitter (52, fig 5) and may include one or more light detectors (54, fig 5) configured to output one or more signals indicative of the intensity of one or more visible and/or non-visible wavelengths of light and one or more processors (110, fig 5) collectively configured to receive the one or more signals and determine a floor type in dependence on the one or more signals. The present invention is advantageous as the location of the floor type sensor between the rollers helps to protect the sensor from dirt which may damage or obscure the sensor.
