Abstract

A biomass burner comprising a primary oxygen feed 13 and gas distributor 15 configured to fluidize solid particulate fuel 17 within a primary combustion zone 11. The primary combustion zone 11 is located adjacent to the fuel feed channel 3, optionally surrounding it in a radial periphery. Therefore, the solid particulate fuel is heated within the fuel feed 3, resulting in gasification of the fuel prior to introduction into the primary combustion zone 11. A duct 27 conveys the combustible gas 25 from the gasification of the fuel to a secondary combustion zone 29, where ai secondary oxygen feed 31 allows total combustion thereof. The fuel feed 3 may be fed by one or more horizontal screw conveyors 1 and may comprise a rotating arm 9, that pushes fuel from the upper end of the fuel feed into the primary combustion zone 11. A corresponding method, a food waste processing system, a generator system, and an energy-from-food waste system each comprising the biomass burner are also claimed.
