Abstract

An air conditioning device comprises a heat pump device 3 to cool or heat air blown by a fan 5 over a surface of the device, and using the Coanda effect entrains surrounding air 22 adjacent the surface to amplify / increase the blown air. The heat pump is a thermoelectric device to cool or heat substantially recirculated air 23 and does not comprise a significant portion of ambient air. The surface of the device may comprise a canopy 1 and a hollow pillar 9 having apertures 10 through which the recirculating air 23 is drawn. The canopy may be incorporated on a drone to hover over a target zone (fig 6) or worn on a head of a person (fig 7, i.e. hat). Infrared sensors (25, fig 4) may be used to detect individuals. Also described is a handheld or portable device (fig 9).
