Abstract
Use of walnut shells as a bedding or litter for cats. The walnut shells have a size of 0.1 mm to 10 mm, preferably of 3.0 mm. The bedding absorbs smells, absorbs liquids and clots urine.
Description
USE OF WALNUT SHELLS
Field of the Invention
[0001] The present invention relates to the use of walnut shells as a bedding for cats.
Backciround of the Invention [0002] Over the years, various types of devices for separating nutmeats from nutshells have been developed: such as devices based on hand, gravity, ultrasound, aerodynamic principle or on optical scanning of a mixture of nutmeats and nutshells with subsequent separation, where the nutshells were removed as a waste. Problems with such devices and systems include that these devices and systems are complicated, demand a lot of work, are not efficient and represent costs connected with the waste disposal. :is
[0003] Another known use of the walnut shells is a use as a solid fuel for production of heat by combustion.
[0004] Another known technical solution is described in registered Slovak utility model No. 1 520 with the title of Deep bedding for breeding of livestock", wherein the bedding is formed by straw and/or wood waste in the size of from 30 cm to 55 cm, which comprises an absorbing material comprising a combined enzyme in the concentration of not more than 0.5 l/m2. Problems with such a system include that this system has a low absorption capacity for liquids and smells.
[0005] Another known technical solution is described in registered Slovak utility model No. 5 431 with the title of "Bedding for absorption of liquid excrements", describing a bedding formed by a mixture of bentonite and raw china clay, which have a size of 0.5 mm to 5 mm. Problems with such a system include that this system has a low absorption capacity for liquids and smells.
[0006] Another known technical solution is described in registered Czech utility model No. 7 555 with the title of "Bedding for small animals" , describing a bedding formed by more than 50 weight % of cellulose, 0.1 -1 weight % of an absorber, 5-17 weight % of gyps and 3-15 weight % of a polyolefin. Problems with such a system include that this system has a low absorption capacity for liquids and smells.
[0007] Another known technical solution is described in registered Czech utility model No. 2 702 with the title of "A material for absorption of liquid excrements of domestic animals, particularly cats", describing a bedding formed by at least 50 weight % of impregnated clays. Problems with such a system include that this system has a low absorption capacity for liquids and smells.
[0008] Another known technical solution is described in registered Czech utility model No. 10 405 with the title of "Bedding on the basis of bentonite" describing a bedding formed by 25 to 50 weight % of bentonite granules having a size of not larger than 2 mm and 65 -75 weight % of bentonite granules having a size of larger than 2 mm. Problems with such a system include that this system has a low absorption capacity for liquids and smells.
Summary of the Invention
[0009] Problems with prior art described above can be to a large extent solved by using walnut shells according to the present invention, wherein the walnut shells are used as a bedding for cats.
[0010] According to the first aspect of the present invention, there is provided a use of walnut shells as a bedding for cats, wherein the walnut shells haveasizeofo.1 mmtolomm.

Industrial Applicability
[0013] Technical solution of the present invention can be used as a bedding and/or a litter for domestic animals, like cats, rodents and livestock, whereby the bedding and/or litter absorbs smells, absorbs liquids and clots urine.

- Claims 1. Use of walnut shells as a bedding for cats.
- 2. Use of walnut shells according to claim 1 characterized in that the walnut shells have a size of 0.1 mm to 10mm.
