Abstract

A cylindrical brush comprises rows of bristles or filaments; some of these filaments are mounted vertically relative the brush surface at 90 degrees to the surface and some of the rows b are mounted at an angle to the surface, pointing towards the two ends of the cylindrical brush. The angle formed between the brush surface and the angle filaments may vary.

3 axis cylinder brush A cylinder brush will consist of a generally cylindrical brush body that in use rotates around its central axis, from which protrudes bristles or filaments for cleaning applications.
Cylinder brushes are used in many applications from small vacuum cleaner heads where they are used to agitate and beat a carpet, to large industrial car wash machines where the extra-long soft filaments wipe clean the contoured profile of the vehicle. They are constructed by fixing the filaments around a round bar or tube which in turn is designed to be rotated by some mechanical means. Stiff short filaments versions of cylinder brushes are used in floor cleaning machinery and longer filaments versions are used in road sweeping equipment. Short filaments lengths up to 50mm long work very well for cleaning flat surfaces and longer lengths filaments work very well for cleaning profiled and contoured surfaces.
One problem with current cylinder brush designs is that, say when space is limited, a miniature built cylinder brush is required. However, the short filaments hamper the brush performance when used against a profile surface. To help the brushing or cleaning performance the cylinder brush must be moved in all three axes; rotational, linear and height, see fig 1-r, x andy. This makes the brushing drive very complicated to produce. Our solution is to have the filaments of the brush angled mounted in such a way that just using the brush using only the axis of rotation r, causes the bristles to flex in all three axis directions. Claims (2)

1. A cylinder brush incorporating rows of filaments where at least 1 row is protruding vertical from the cylinder core, another row protrudes at an angle towards the end of the cylinder and another row protrudes at an a angle towards the end of the cylinder in the opposite direction.
2. A cylinder brush incorporating filaments where the protruding bristles are arranged at varying angles of degree, other than at 90 degrees from the cylinder body surface.
