Abstract

A card holder for Christmas trees is made from bent wire. One section receives a card or other ornament or decoration in a coil, spiral, grip, clip or clamp. Another section extends parallel to a tree branch holding the card or ornament away from the tree to avoid obscuring the decoration. A zig-zag shaped bent section secures the holder to a branch, by wrapping round the branch or also using string, tape or glue.

BACKGROUND

I. Field of the Invention

The present invention relates to decorative systems, and more specifically, to decoration holders and trees having decoration holders.

2. Description of Related Art

As part of the celebration of the Christmas season, traditionally, people bring a pine or evergreen free into their home to decorate it with ornaments, lights, garland, tinsel, and the like.

Alternatively, in many cases, people use an artificial tree instead of a living tree, and decorate it the same way. When decorating a tree, whether live or artificial, a variety of ornaments are commonly used. These ornaments range from decorative balls to Santa Claus figures to nativity scene recreations. What is needed, therefore, is a holder that can effectively display cards, or other similar decorations, on a Christmas tree. The holder should be simple yet sturdy, and should prevent the cards from falling from the tree. The holder should also be able to hold the cards some distance away from the tree, and should not require making holes in the cards. SUMMARY

According to a first aspect of the present invention there is provided a decoration holder for mounting to an element of a support system, comprising: a receiving portion located at a first end of the decoration holder and configured to hold a decoration; a coupling portion located at a second end of the decoration holder and configured to couple the decoration holder to the Christmas tree, wherein the coupling portion forms a zig-zag shape; and an extending portion configured to extend substantially parallel to a branch of the Christmas üee and configured to ocate the receiving portion such that the decoration held by the receiving portion is not obsftucted from view by the element of the support system.

According to a second aspect of the present invention there is provided a decoration display system comprising: a support system and a decoration holder as defined in the above first aspect mounted to the support system, wherein the coupling portion of the decoration holder and an element of the support system are coupled together.

Paragraph ii: The decoration display system of paragraph 13, wherein the spiraled portion is square, triangular, diamond-shaped, hexagonal, or octagonal.

Paragraph 16: The decoration display system of paragraph 10, wherein the receiving portion is one of a clip, a clamp, and a grip.

Paragraph 17: The decoration display system of paragraph 10, wherein the coupling portion is coupled to the portion of the support system by a string wrapping surrounding the coupling portion and the portion of the support system.

Paragraph 20: A holiday decoration display system, comprising: a Christmas tree comprising: at least one substantially vertical trunk section; a plurality of branches extending substantially horizontally from the at least one substantially vertical trunk section; and a base configured to support the at least one substantially vertical trunk section; a decoration holder comprising: a coupling portion comprising a zig-zag shaped first end of a piece of wire configured to be coupled to a branch of the plurality of branches of the Christmas tree; an extending portion comprising a middle section of the piece of wire that is oriented substantially parallel to the branch of the plurality of branches of the Christmas tree; a receiving portion comprising a circular spiral shaped second end of the piece of wire configured to hold a decoration between adjacent spirals of wire; wherein the extending portion is of sufficient length to extend away from the coupling portion a distance sufficient to locate the receiving portion such that a view of the decoration held by the receiving portion is substantially unobstructed; and wherein the coupling portion is wrapped with a string in order to couple the decoration holder to the Christmas tree.

It will be appreciated by those skilled in the art that the invention can be embodied in other specific forms without departing from the spirit or essential characteristics thereof. For example, while the invention has been described in the context of Christmas trees and Christmas cards, the concepts described herein need not be limited to these illustrative embodiments. For example, other types of decorations, or other types of trees or support systems, can be used. These other types of cards, trees, decorations, and systems can enjoy similar advantages as those described above.

Additionally, the specific configurations, choice of materials, and the size and shape of various elements can be varied according to particular design specifications or constraints requiring a holder constructed according to the principles of the invention, Such changes are intended to be embraced within the scope of the invention.

The presently disclosed embodiments are, therefore, considered in all respects to be illustrative and not restrictive. The scope of the invention is indicated by the appended claims, rather than the foregoing description, and all changes that come within the meaning and range of equivalents thereof are intended to be embraced therein.

Claims

CLAIMSI. A decoration holder for mounting to an element of a support system, comprising: a receiving portion located at a first end of the decoration holder and configured to hold a decoration; a coupling portion located at a second end of the decoration holder and configured to couple the decoration holder to the Christmas tree, wherein the coupling portion forms a zig-zag shape; and an extending portion configured to extend substantially parallel to a branch of the Christmas ee and configured to locate the receiving portion such that the decoration held by the receiving portion is not obsnucted from view by the element of the support system.
2. The decoration holder of claim I wherein the support system is a Christmas tree and the element is a branch of the Christmas tree.
3. The decoration holder of claim 1 or 2, wherein the at least one of the receiving portion, coupling portion and the extending portion is comprised of wire.
4. The decoration holder of claim 3 wherein (iii) the receiving portion and the extending portion are integrally formed arid/or (iv) the extending portion and the coupling portion are integrally formed.
5. The decoration holder of any of claims 1 to 4, wherein the decoration holder is comprised of a single piece of wire.
6. The decoration holder of claim 3, 4 or 5, wherein the receiving portion is a spiralled or coiled portion of the wire and is oriented substantially perpendicular to the extending portion.
7. The decoration holder of claim 6, wherein the spiralled or coiled portion forms round shape.
8. The decoration holder of claim 6, wherein the spiralled or coiled portion forms square, triangular, diamond, hexagonal, or octagonal shape,
9. The decoration holder of any of claims I to 5, wherein the receiving portion is one of a clip, a clamp, and a grip.

The decoration holder of any preceding claim, wherein the coupling portion is coupled to the support system by a string wrapping surrounding the coupling portion and the element of the support system.11 The decoration holder of any preceding claim, wherein the coupling portion wraps, or is configured to wrap, around an element of the support system.12. The decoration holder of any preceding claim, wherein the decoration is a Christmas card.13. A decoration display system comprising: a support system and a decoration holder as claimed in any of claims 1 to 12 mounted to the support system, wherein the coupling portion of the decoration holder and an element of the support system are coupled together.14. The decoration display system of claim 13, wherein the coupling portion is coupled to the element of the support system by a string wrapping surrounding the coupling portion and the portion of the support system.15, the decoration display system of claim 13, wherein the coupling portion wraps around the element of the support system.16. The decoration display system of claim 13, 14 or 15 wherein the support system is a Christmas tree and the element is a branch of the Christmas tree.17. The decoration display system of claim 16 wherein the Christmas tree is an artificial Christmas tree, 18, The decoration display system of claim 16 wherein the Christmas tree includes one or more securing elements adapted to secure the decoration holder to a branch of the Christmas tree.19, The decoration display system of claim 16 wherein the Christmas tree as manufactured includes a plurality of decoration holders attached to respective branches.20. The decoration display system of any of claims 13 to 19, wherein the decoration is a Christmas card, 2 I. The decoration display system of claim 17 wherein the coupling portion comprises a zig-zag shaped first end of a piece of wire configured to be coupled to a branch of the Christmas tree; the extending portion comprises a middle section of the piece of wire that is oriented substantially parallel to the branch of the Christmas tree; the receiving portion comprising a circular spiral or coil shaped second end of the piece of wire configured to hold a decoration between adjacent spirals or coils of wire; wherein the extending portion is of sufficient length to extend away from the coupling portion a distance sufficient to locate the receiving portion such that a view of the decoration held by the receiving portion is substantially unobstructed.
