Abstract
A plastic air brick adapter A fits over a metric air brick B changing the external dimensions of the air brick such that the air brick can be installed into imperial brick work D. The air brick sleeve A converts a metric brick into an imperial brick to maintain the vertical and horizontal mortar joints C.
Description
Descdption Pastic Air rkk Athpter Plastic air bricks are mainly available in metric sizes suitab'e for use with metric bricks. Air bricks are manufactured in different heights to replace either a single brick, one course high, a double height, two courses, or triple height, three courses high.
A standard metric brick on its longest facing side in elevation is 215 x 65mm.
A standard imperial brick on its longest facing side in elevation is 9" x 3" (225x 75mm].
(brick sizes quoted are approximate, and may vary slightly between brick manufacturer and clay material used) The Plastic Air Brick Adapter' fits over a metric plastic air brick changing the external dimensions so that the air brick can be installed into imperial brick work, thus maintaining the vertical and horizontal mortar joints.
The key features are: i) Adapts a plastic metric air brick to co-ordinate with imperial brick ii) Enables vertical and horizontal bed joints to remain imperial sized.
iii] Avoids the need for excessively large horizontal and vertical mortar joints.
Three drawings are provided, which illustrate a typical two course high Plastic Airbrick Adapter'. The same principle applies to single course and triple course plastic air brick adapters.
Figure 1. shows the Plastic Airbrick Adapter' at (A) with the extent of the opening aperture for the metric airbrick defined by (B]. The surrounding horizontal and vertical mortar joints can be seen at (C), and imperial size brick Figure 2. shows the cross section through the Plastic Airbrick Adapter'. The depth of the unit (E) is variable and dependent on the model of plastic air brick that the adapter will surround.
Figure 3. shows the front and rear elevation of the Plastic Airbrick Adapter'. The vertical sides (F) are thinner than the horizontal sides (G) to accommodate the proportional differences between imperial and metric bricks. The dimensions at (F) and (G) vary dependent on the height of the air brick, i.e. for one, two or three brick courses.
