Folding paper. - An apparatus for folding a moving web of paper 17, Fig. 8, into a plurality of longitudinal sections 52 - - 56, consists of two co-operating folder members 20, 22, Figs. 5, 9, and 10, the member 20 being fixed and the member 22 being movable toward and away from the member 20 so as to allow the web to be placed between the members initially, and so as to adjust the space between the members to effect the folding. The member 20 is wedge-shaped and the member 22 is pyramid-shaped, the latter being attached to a bracket slidable on a fixed part of the frame and secured thereto by a setscrew, so that the faces 33, 38 of the members respectively are adjacent to one another. Sideplates 41, 42, Fig. 5, on the member 22 engage the sides of the member 20, while side members 35, 36 attached to the member 20 extend outside the plates 41 and converge toward them near the apex e, Fig. 9, of the member 22. The members 35, 41 form the fold m, Fig. 8, the members 20, 22 form the fold n, and the members 42, 36 form the fold o. An additional fold p may be obtained by providing a side extension 43, Fig. 5, on the plate 42 and shortening the member 36. The web is stressed transversely before reaching the folder members by passing it over three rollers 49, 50, 51 of which 50, 51 are inclined away from the plane of the web, as shown in Figs. 5 and 8. After folding, the web 17 is passed between two pressing-rollers.
