Abstract

A bottle 7 has an integral spout 2 and a mating cap 5. The spout enables the contained liquid or granular products to be cleanly and safely dispensed, and the cap allows the remaining product to be sealed within the bottle. The spout may be formed during the moulding process of the bottle. Preferably the cap has an extended sealing ring 4 that seals against an inside bore of the bottle below the spout. The bottle may have a conventional screw cap or a child resistant closure (figure 2).

Description

Integral bottle pourer and sealing closure This invention relates to an integral feature for pouring the contents of a bottle and sealing the contents when not in use using a non-standard cap I closure.
Many liquid and granular products are dispensed from bottles or other containers by removing the cap / closure then tilting the bottle.
This often causes the contents to spill as the lip of the bottle is not shaped.
The spillage of the contents is at best messy, and at worst dangerous in the case of the contents containing active ingredients. Alternative methods include the use of additional parts which loosely fit into the neck of the bottles and need to be pulled out before allowing the parts to direct the contents. Pulling the parts out by hand contaminates the product and also the hands even before dispensing.
The invention works by better directing the flow during pouring Inadvertent misdirection of the contents during pouring may also put them where they were not intended to be.
By having a device integrated into the form of the pouring lip of the bottle or container, the contents can be positively directed. This device is a small spout formed during the manufacture of the bottle.
It is not an additional part so it does not need to be touched.
When the bottle is tilted the contents are poured / dispensed via the spout, and when the bottle is returned to an upright position the contents return inside the bottle.
The contents of the bottle are sealed inside by an unusually long sealing ring which is inside and integral within the cap! closure.
The seal is affected when the internal thread inside the cap I closure is screwed onto the external thread on the bottle / container. The long sealing ring enters the plain diameter deep inside the bottle neck bore and below the spout form.
The form of the spout clears the inside of the cap / closure because the threaded diameter is designed to be larger.
The invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows a section through the bottle / container having the integral spout, and the cap / closure having the sealing ring, Figure 2 shows a section through the bottle! container having the integral spout, and a different cap / closure still having the sealing ring but also having an outer skirt to the cap which has a "squeeze and turn" device.
The alternative "squeeze and turn" device is not new or novel on its own, but when used with this basic invention allows Child Resistance to be incorporated to improve the use and ease of operation of the dispensing of liquids containing harmful ingredients.
In Figure 1 the bottle / container 1 comprises a one piece plastic container having unlimited dimensions and potentially produced from a wide variety of thermoplastic materials. The spout 2 in the upper neck is formed integrally during the moulding process.
The bore 3 inside the upper neck and below the spout, is sized to mate with the sealing ring 4 inside the cap / closures and affect a positive water tight or air tight seal.
The threaded lower neck 6 is also formed integrally during the moulding process, and is sized to mate with the cap / closure.
The extended spout has sufficient space to clear the inside of the cap! closure.
In rigure 2 shows an alternative embodiment where the bottle I container described above and shown in Figure 1 also has additional features to provide Child Resistance to the pack.
With this design the different bottle / container 1 is larger to allow provision of an integral moulded shoulder 8 which has raised bottle restrictor stops 9 on two sides of the shoulder diameter. These come into contact with two cap integral restrictor ribs 10 moulded on the inside walls of the outer skirt of a different cap 11. The combination of the two components only allows the cap to be removed from the bottle once the side walls of the cap are squeezed at 90 degrees to the engaged ribs. When squeezed, the ribs in the cap become misshapen and ovallised, thus allowing them to clear the fixed stops on the bottle as the cap is unscrewed. This facility is shown on the scrap view on A.

Claims (4)

  1. Claims 1. An integrally spouted bottle and mating cap enabling contained liquid or granular products to be cleanly and safely dispensed, then sealed within the bottle by use of a special cap.
  2. 2. An integrally spouted bottle and mating cap according to claim 1, in which the spout is produced during the moulding process for the bottle.
  3. 3. An integrally spouted bottle and mating cap according to claim 1, in which the cap has an extended sealing ring which seals against the inside bore of the bottle below the spout.
  4. 4. An integrally spouted bottle and mating cap according to claim 1, in which the additional alternative feature of a Child Resistant configuration to the bottle and cap renders the complete pack both clean and safe to use and also prohibits access to children.
