Abstract

A dock 1 for a mobile telephone X with connectors Y. Dock 1 has a base member 10 with a recess 11, the base recess having recess connectors 11A. A cradle 20 is adapted to fit in the recess 11, the cradle having first connectors 21 to engage with the recess connectors when the cradle is fitted in the recess, the cradle having a cavity 22 to receive the mobile telephone X and second cavity connectors 23 connected to the first connectors 21 to engage with connectors Y on the mobile telephone when fitted in the cavity. In use the one or more cradles can be created with different cavities to receive different mobile telephones and each cradle can be fitted in the recess on the base member, with the connectors on the phone being connected to the recess connectors through the cradle connectors.

Description

Title: Dock for Mobile Telephone The invention relates to a dock for a mobile telephone.
According to the present invention there is provided a dock for a mobile telephone with connectors comprising: a) a base member with a recess, said base recess having recess connectors b) and a cradle adapted to fit in the recess, said cradle having first connectors to engage with the recess connectors when the cradle is fitted in the recess, said cradle having a cavity to receive a mobile telephone and second cavity connectors connected to the first connectors to engage with connectors on the mobile telephone when fitted in the cavity, in use the one or more cradles can be created with different cavities to receive different mobile telephones and each cradle can be filled in the recess on the base member, with the connectors on the phone being connected to the recess connectors through the cradle connectors.
Preferably the cradle has an external dimension substantially equal to the internal dimension of the recess.
Preferably the recess and cradle are generally rectangular in shape.
Preferably the recess connectors and first connectors are positioned on one or more side edges of the recess and cradle.
The base member may form part of a docking station with screen for mobile telephone as described in my co-pending application no. the contents of which are hereby incorporated herein by reference.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows an exploded view of a base member with recess, a cradle, and mobile telephone, and Figure 2 shows an assembled view of a base member with recess, a cradle, and mobile telephone.
Referring to the drawings there is shown a dock I for a mobile telephone X. Telephone X is of the type having connectors in the form of a socket Y to receive an electrical plug (e.g mini USB plug, HTML, HDJ or "Apple" plug) as is well know in the art..
Dock I has a base member 10 with a generally rectangular recess 11 larger than the size of a mobile telephone such as telephone X. One side edge 1 IA of recess 11 supports recess connectors 12 (e.g. 32 pin connectors) connected to circuits in the dock 1.
A cradle 20 is provided adapted to fit in the recess. Cradle 20 is rectangular and has an external dimension substantially equal to the internal dimension of the recess. Cradle 20 has first connectors 21 (e.g. 32 pin connectors) on external side edge to engage with at least some of the recess connectors 12 when the cradle is fitted in the recess.
Cradle 20 has a cavity 22 to receive mobile telephone X. Cavity 22 has second cavity connectors in the form of a plug 23 to engage with socket Y on the mobile telephone when the telephone fitted in the cavity. Plug 23 is hard wired to the first cradle connectors 21.
In use the one or more cradles can be created with different cavities to receive different mobile telephones and each cradle can be fitted in the recess on the base member, with the connectors on the phone being connected to the recess connectors through the cradle connectors. The base member can thus connect to the telephone X and communicate with the telephone through the telephone socket Y. The invention has many applications, but the base member may form pait of a docking station with screen for mobile telephone as described in my co-pending application no. the contents of which are hereby incorporated herein by reference. The invention may be used to connect different sizes of mobile telephones into a singe shape of recess in the docking station.
The invention may take form different to that specifically described above. For example some telephone may communicate with external devices through more than one socket and thus the cavity could include more than one plugs (as second cavity connectors) to engage with those sockets, and the plugs could be connected to the cradle first connectors.
Further modifications will be apparent to those skilled in the art without departing from the scope of the present invention.
