Abstract

A means 1 of connecting polymeric soil reinforcements 2 to segmental blocks, the connecting means being shaped like a letter D. The reinforcements may be strips, and the strip may be passed around the connection means, the connecting means a strip may then be received in a cavity in a block. Subsequent courses of block are laid to build a retaining wall. The block may be made by pultrusion or moulding, using a single fibre type or mixture of fibres, or may be made from reinforced concrete or cement. The connecting means may be made of metal, ceramic, or plastics.

Description

Method of connecting polymeric soil reinforcing strips to segmental retaining wall blocks This invention relates to a method of connecting polymeric soil reinforcing strips to segmental retaining wall b'ocks.
Connections have been used to connect polymeric soil reinforcing strips to reinforced concrete panels by trapping the strip in a taper by a wedging action. This invention allows the connection of polymeric soil reinforcing strips to segmental blocks and wIthout the disadvantage of a wedging or trapping action.
According to this invention the means of connecting the soil reinforcing strip is by means of a D' shaped bar. This bar could be a pultrusion or moulding using glass or other fibers singly or in combination, or metallic or ceramic.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 shows the cross section of the connection means.
Figure 2 shows the connection means 1, with the strip 2. passing around it.
Figure 3 shows the connection means 2. located in a segmental retaining wall block 3 cavity or slot 4. with the soil reinforcing strip 2. in position.
The soil reinforcing strip 2 is passed around the connection means land the two together are placed in the receiving cavity and slot 4 in the segrnentaE block 3.
subsequent courses of blocks are laid to build the wall. It is a function of this invention that the soil reinforcing strip can move freely around the connection means so the equalisation of the strip tension can be achieved before fill is placed over the soil reinforcing strips and compacted.
