Wheel-guards, obstruction-removers, and safety appliances.-A front guard for a vehicle comprising a buffer screen c carried by the vehicle frame, a fender j pivotally connected to the frame, and a support l for the forward end of the fender which is withdrawn to permit the fender to drop during the initial rearward movement of the screen when striking an obstacle is characterized by means such as the chain m which operates to check the fall of the fender and raise it during continued rearward movement of the screen. The wire screen c is supported on a frame a carried by buffer rods d, supplementary buffers f being disposed behind the buffers e to absorb reverse shocks.
