Dumping wagons; doors, wagon.-In a hopper wagon of the kind in which the floor is formed of two parts 3, 4 normally sloping downwards, one or both of the parts being hinged about a longitudinal axis to form a flap capable of being lowered into line with the other part for discharging the contents, the hinged flap is provided with a strut 16 hinged adjacent to the free edge of the flap and having its lower end moving along guides on the underframe so that it can assume a vertical position for holding the flap closed. In the construction shown in Fig. 2, the floor is built up of three pairs of flaps 3, 4, all of which are hinged to a central longitudinal bar 5 and are adapted, when the catches 23 are released and the struts 16 are pulled away at one side of the wagon, to fall automatically under the weight of the load, and subsequently to be restored to the closed position by counterweights 13, 15 or by springs. In the erected position of the struts, rollers 17 thereon rest in sockets 20 on the underframe and are retained by cross-pins 21, the rollers being pulled out when desired by a pull on a connecting-rod 18 and handle 19. The struts may slide either transversely or longitudinally, and in a modification, Fig. 5, hinged half-doors 27, 28, carried by the sides 2 and underframe respectively, are added so that the floor may be supported for the carriage of light goods in an intermediate or horizontal position.
