258,831. Soc. Dian et Cie. Sept. 26, 1925, Convention, date]. Jacks. -A screw jack of the double extension type has a sleeve c mounted on a pivot d in the casing a and rotated by bevel gearing e. A nut g at the upper end of the sleeve engages with an externally screwed sleeve h which is prevented from rotating while rising by a corrugated leaf spring i acting as a brake or by a like device. The sleeve h has at its upper end a nut k engaging an inner screw l carrying the crutch m. In operation, the brake device holds the sleeve h against rotation during the first part of the lift and the engagement of the crutch with the load holds the screw l against rotation during the second part of the lift.
