Abstract

The present invention is for a drainage system for a surface such as a highchair tray or table. The drainage system comprises fluid collection channel and a removable collection chamber. The collection chamber is located beneath an aperture in the fluid collection channel. The fluid collection channel is integrally formed with the surface and is sloped towards the aperture. The collection chamber can be attached to the surface via a threaded engagement. Optionally the fluid collection channel extends continuously around the perimeter of the top of the surface. In a preferred embodiment the surface is a highchair tray and the collection chamber is attached to the bottom of the try. In a further embodiment the surface is a table and the removable collection chamber acts as a table leg.

Description

DRAINAGE SYSTEM
Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to the field of drainage, in particular to a drainage system for a surface for playing at, eating from or on which to place things, such as a highchair tray, a
table and the like.
Background to the Invention
Young children often knock over drinks causing spillages on tables and highchairs.
Depending on how much liquid has been spilt, these spillages can flow off the surface they are eating or playing at and onto the floor.
Prior art methods to contain spillages on highchair trays include providing raised edges or adding additional catching trays underneath the highchair tray. Such systems help to avoid further spreading of spillages to the floor.
It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide an improved system for containing spillages or at least to provide a suitable alternative.
Summary of the Invention
The invention provides a drainage system for a surface for playing at, eating from or on which to place things, such as a highchair tray or a table, the drainage system comprising a fluid collection channel and a removable collection chamber, wherein the collection chamber is located beneath an aperture in the fluid collection channel and the fluid collection channel is integrally formed with the surface and is sloped towards the aperture such that fluid in the fluid collection channel flows into the collection chamber.
Accordingly, the system according to the invention contains spillages and prevents these from spreading onto the floor. -2 -
The collection chamber can be removed for easy disposal of spilt fluid and easy cleaning of the system.
The collection chamber is preferably attached to the surface via threaded engagement.
However, this is not to be considered limiting and in alternative embodiments, the collection chamber may be attached by a push-click, snap-fit or other connection.
Preferably, the fluid collection channel extends continuously around the perimeter of the top of the surface. However, this is not to be considered limiting and in alternative embodiments, the fluid collection channel may instead extend only partially along one or more sides of the perimeter of the top of the surface.
In a preferred embodiment, the surface is a table and the removable collection chamber acts as a table leg.
In another preferred embodiment, the surface is a highchair tray and the removable collection chamber is attached to the bottom of the tray.
The fluid collection channel is preferably of U-shaped cross section. However, this is not to be considered limiting and channels with other cross-sections are also considered to be within the scope of the invention.
Brief Description of the drawings
Certain preferred embodiments of the present invention will now be described, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows a perspective view of a preferred drainage system according to the invention incorporated into a table; Figure 2 shows a plan view of the drainage system shown in Figure 1; Figure 3 shows a cross sectional view along line A-A in Figure 2; Figure 4 shows an exploded view of the table in Figure 1 with the drainage system collection chamber detached; -3 -Figure 5 shows a perspective view of another preferred drainage system according to the invention incorporated into a highchair tray; Figure 6 shows a plan view of the drainage system shown in Figure 5; Figure 7 shows a cross sectional view along line B-B in Figure 6; and Figures 8a to 8c show exploded views of the tray in Figure 5 with the drainage system collection chamber detached.
Detailed Description
Various embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the drawings, where like reference numerals represent like parts and assemblies throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawings and especially to Figures 1 to 4, there is shown a preferred drainage system according to the invention for a table, the drainage system generally referred to by the reference numeral 100 and comprising a fluid collection channel 10 and a removable collection chamber 20, wherein collection chamber 20 is located beneath aperture 11 in fluid collection channel 10 and fluid collection channel 10 is integrally formed with the top surface 31 of table 30 and is sloped towards aperture 11 such that fluid in fluid collection channel 10 flows into collection chamber 20 via aperture 11.
Drainage system 100 contains spillages and prevents these from spreading onto the floor
beneath table 30.
As shown in Figure 1, fluid collection chamber 20 extends continuously around the perimeter of top surface 31 and removable collection chamber 20 acts as a leg for table 30. 25 In the preferred embodiment shown in Figure 5, there is shown a preferred drainage system 200 comprising fluid collection channel 210 and removable collection chamber 220, wherein fluid collection channel 210 is integrally formed with the top surface 231 of highchair tray 230 and is sloped towards collection chamber 220 such that fluid in fluid collection channel 210 flows into collection chamber 220. -4 -
Removable collection chamber 220 is attached to the bottom of tray 230, preferably via threaded engagement as shown in Figure 8c.
Alternative collection chambers 221 and 222 are shown in Figures 8b and 8c, respectively, wherein collection chamber 221 is attached via push fit engagement and collection chamber 222 is attached via slide clip engagement.
It is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the specific details described herein which are given by way of example only and that various modifications and alterations are possible without departing from the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims. -5 -
