Abstract
258,039. Burstyn, W. July 15, 1925. Reciprocating and oscillating machines. - The oscillations of an electromagnet are converted into rotary motion, for winding a clock &c., by means of a brush-like element having bristles, hairs, fine wires or the like co-operating with a toothed or roughened disc or wheel in the manner of a pawl-and-ratchet gear. In one form, Fig. 1, the brush 3 is mounted on a blade spring 2, carrying an armature 7 co-operating with an electromagnet 5 excited by alternating current. In another form, Fig. 5, a pair of brushes 3 is carried by arms on the spindle 10 of an oscillatory armature 7, the magnets 5 being intermittently energized by direct current by the action of a spring 8 operated by pins 11 on the armature and co-acting with contacts 9 in the circuit. The brushes may drive ratchet discs 1, as shown, or internal or external ratchet wheels. A brush-like detent may be provided to prevent backward rotation.
