Description

APPARATUS FOR HEATING A SPACE
Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to apparatus for heating a space, in particular apparatus including a heat source provided in use, more particularly but not exclusively portable apparatus for using a heat source such as an open fire for heating another space, such as a tent.
Background
Increasing numbers of people enjoy camping or spending time in the outdoors across many societies.
A common activity when camping or spending time in the outdoors is cooking on open fires or heat sources such as barbecues. And in many environments this heat source may be contrasted to cold spaces such as tents or other night-time areas in particular.
It can therefore be problematic to move away from the heat source and go to bed or into a tent space, which lacks heating.
Prior Art
US 8 819 957 (ADRIAN) discloses a portable air heating system for heating air within an enclosed area without venting exhaust fumes into the enclosed area, the system comprising: a heat transfer housing having a main body with a pair of side portions on opposite sides of the main body which define an interior of said heat transfer housing, each of said side portions having an exterior surface exposed to the atmosphere which forms a portion of the outside surface of said heat transfer housing, said heat transfer housing having an intake sleeve and an outlet sleeve each mounted on the exterior surface of one of said side portions of said main body, the air to be heated being receivable through said intake sleeve and the heated air deliverable to the enclosed area being expelled through said outlet sleeve; US 2008 0 105 252 (BARBOUR et al) discloses an outdoor firepit comprises a vessel adapted to contain a combustible material. A plurality of conduits are provided in the vessel and are positioned to be in thermal communication with the combustible material. An air source forces air through the plurality of conduits and into an area 5 surrounding the firepit. An apparatus for heating an outdoor area comprises a vessel adapted to contain a combustible material having an inner bowl and an outer bowl and a space therebetween. A plurality of conduits are provided in the vessel adjacent the inner bowl and are positioned to be in thermal communication with the combustible material. An air source forces air through the plurality of conduits and 10 into the outdoor area surrounding the vessel.
US 4 127 100 (BAKER) discloses a wood burning stove for providing heated air to a room or similar area includes a fire chamber, a hearth in the forward portion of the fire chamber, draft inlet means at the front of the fire chamber and a flue at the rear of the fire chamber. Between the hearth and the flue is an enclosed air chamber having front and rear walls; the air chamber communicates at its bottom with the ambient air and at its top with one or more air pipes which extend to the front of the stove and there open to the ambient air. A baffle plate is positioned between and spaced from the air chamber and the flue. Ambient air is heated by passing it through the air chamber and air pipes after they have been heated by hot gases rising from a fire burning on the hearth; the hot gases contact the air pipes and the front wall of the air chamber and, because their normal path of travel to the flue is altered by the baffle plate, contact the rear wall of the air chamber as well.
The present invention arose in order to overcome problems suffered by existing devices.

In other embodiments the griddle may be separable from the apparatus, so as to enable cleaning or the like.
In some embodiments the hose comprises an outlet. Such outlet may comprise one or more perforations. Such perforations may enable the hose to direct heated air into a space.
In some embodiments the perforations or outlet may comprise a control means. For example such control means may enable controlled direction of heated air into the space. This may enable the direction of air to be stopped or reduced, and/or for the pumping mechanism to be operated.
In some embodiments the apparatus may comprise insulation, which may be situate 5 on the body, device, hose or elsewhere.
In some embodiments the apparatus comprises a heat storage means, which may be used to store heated air or fluid. Such heat storage means may comprise an insulated storage means.
In some embodiments the location means may be comprised in a tripod or stand or the like, which enables the body to be elevated in use. The location means may be envisaged to be used to locate the body and griddle above a heat source such as a barbecue or open fire. In some embodiments the location means may comprise plural legs. In some embodiments the location means may comprise a frame. Such frame may locate the griddle and body together, and/or the griddle and/or body on the legs.
In some embodiments the body and/or griddle may be displaced from the location means. For example the griddle and body may comprise a separate and/or separable part to the location means so as to enable the griddle and/or body to be used in different locations, for example wherein the location means is required for an open fire but for a barbecue the location means is not necessary and the griddle and/or body may be placed directly onto the barbecue edge or frame.
In some embodiments the apparatus comprises an air movement or pumping mechanism, which mechanism comprises a means to move air through the apparatus. In particular the mechanism may drive air through the fluidic channel to the space.
