Abstract

Cooling and heating parts; impellers combined with baffle cylinders. - Apparatus for heating, humidifying, and evaporating gases and liquids comprises a screw or centrifugal fan with concentric rotary drums having means on the drums for heating them while in rotation. In a screw fan, Fig. 3, an electric motor rotates a shaft 5 carrying a disc 8 provided with fan blades 9 and staggered drums 10, 11 provided with resistance coils 15 wound on insulation 16, the coils being connected to insulated slip rings 25, 26. The coils are protected by flanges at each end of the drums. Fluid from a pipe 23 passes into a sleeve 22 and through ports 6b and then passes in a spray from one drum to the next outer one. The fluid is collected in a funnel 34 and flows to a float chamber controlling a valve in the main supply, the position of the float beeing determined by a tap in the outflow pipe. A centrifugal fan, Fig. 5, may also be used as a gas washer. The drums are carried by discs 59, 60 provided with inner and outer blades 73, 74. The casing 56, disc 60, and gas and fluid inlet 76 are provided with baffle flanges to form a liquid seal and prevent a direct discharge to the outlet. This fan may be used for evaporating liquids such as honey, fruit and sugar juices, and salt water.
