Abstract

A hand vacuum cleaner has two nested cyclonic stages. Various designs for the dirt collection chamber of the second cyclonic stage and the design of multiple second stage cyclone inlets, which may use directing members, are provided. A length of the second stage cyclone chamber may be shorter than a length of the first stage cyclone chamber. A screen may be positioned laterally outwardly from the second stage cyclone to define a passage positioned between an inner side of the screen and the outer wall of the second stage cyclone wherein the screen may extend axially at least about 70% of a length of the second stage cyclone chamber. Different designs for emptying first and second stage dirt collect ion chambers are also provided.
