Abstract
256,997. Anglo-American Inventions Syndicate, Ltd., (Harris Automatic Press Co.). March 18, 1925. Rotary machines.-In combined toothed and friction gearing for rotary y printing- machines &c. a cylinder 8 is driven by frictional engagement with a driving-cylinder 5, to which is secured a gear wheel 4 gearing with a wheel 7 rotatable upon the cylinder 8. A pin 14 projecting from the cylinder 8 is engaged on opposite sides by a light spring 30 and a rod 17. The spring 30 is carried by a rod 27 adjustable in a pin 26 screwed in the gear-wheel 7 and is adjusted by a nut 29. The spring 30 is insufficiently strong to overcome the frictional grip between the cylinders 5, 8, so that if the cylinder 8 tends to run in advance of the wheel 7, the spring is compressed and the printing is not blurred. The rod 17 is held with its nut 24 in contact with a pin 15 in the wheel 7 by an adjustable strong spring 20 for preventing shocks. The friction cylinders are so constructed that at the end of one revolution they disengage, and the springs restore them to the relative positions determined by the toothed gearing.
