Abstract
256,964. I, G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. Aug. 14, 1925, [Convention date]. Hydrogenation, destructive.-In the production of lighter liquid hydrocarbons by the treatment at elevated temperatures and pressures of coals and other solid carbonaceous substances with hydrogen or gases containing or giving rise to hydrogen, the carbonaceous material is mixed with lignite or peat or both whereby coking is prevented and the introduction into the reaction vessel of the carbonaceous matter is facilitated. Catalysts, e.g. uranium oxide, may be added to the materials treated or arranged separately in the reaction vessel or one through which the products pass before cooling, or may be used in both ways. Preferably the hot parts of the apparatus in contact with the reacting materials are made of material inert thereto, e.g. iron coated with chromium or alloys rich in chromium such as chromium-nickel-iron substantially or completely free from carbon. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the addition of peat &c. to liquid carbonaceous materials. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
