Abstract

A method of controlling a deployable calf rest 27 of a vehicle seat, comprising receiving a request to deploy the calf rest from a stowed to a deployed configuration, and extending the calf rest 27 (e.g. calf rest cushion 80) towards a floor of the vehicle before pivoting the calf rest towards the deployed configuration. Preferably the extension is ceased before the calf rest engages or collides with the floor. The calf rest may be orthogonal to the floor when stowed. Preferably the calf rest remains perpendicular to the floor while extending towards the floor. Preferably the calf rest is extended further after commencing pivoting towards the deployed configuration. Movement of the calf rest may be ceased if a pinch condition is detected, e.g. increased power consumption or a surge in electrical current drawn is detected. Also disclosed is a calf rest 27 movement control method, wherein deployment of the leg rest 27 can be terminated or disabled in dependence on a state of the front seat (82, figure 12) squab (82) or cushion (86) to prevent the calf rest 27 from impacting or colliding with the front seat (82).
