Abstract

256,037. Johns, Son, & Watts, Ltd., Watts, A. E., and Holmes, W. July 14, 1925. Boxes formed from special blanks; fittings, in. ternal.-A box for thermionic valves and other fragile articles comprises an outer and an inner member of similar section and tubular form, the article being contained in the inner member which is disposed with its sides at an angle to the sides of the outer member and with its angles or corners engaging or spaced from the inner faces of the outer member between the angles or corners thereof. As shown in Fig. 2, the box is folded from a rectangular blank of nine sections, the corners of the inner member 4 engaging the inner faces of the outer member 3; the parts are held together by an adhesive wrapper and a separate cover is provided at. each end of the box, or the two members may be inserted into a casing forming an ordinary shouldered box. The inner member may be provided with a foldable perforated extension on one section for positioning the article and foldable extensions on two sections of the outer member may be provided for closing the ends thereof. In a modification, Fig. 5, the inner member is of tapering form, the smaller end being spaced from the outer member by flaps 22 engaging the corners of the outer member and the larger end of the inner member having extensions 26 which fill the spaces between the tops of the inner and outer members and engage the inner faces of the outer member. In a further form the inner member has parallel sides and both ends are spaced from the outer member by flaps engaging the corners thereof.
