Abstract
A vest for protecting the lower mid-region of a child from the elements. The vest has a top section 2 and a band 4 on the lower mid-section. The band on the lower mid-section of the vest is constructed from an elastic composition. This elastic composition may provide protection for the lower mid-region, back and backside of the child where the skin may become exposed. The top section of the vest may be a slim fitting shape to give a comfortable fit. The vest may be worn as an undergarment or as outerwear.
Description
Snuggy Vest
Summary of invention
The Snuggy Vest invention provides a vest adapted for comfort and to protect the lower midregion of a child from the elements. The vest comprises of a band on the lower mid-section of the vest constructed of elastic; point 1 on the diagram, The band on the lower mid -region of the vest is tapered at the base of the band; point 4 on the diagram. The band on the lower mid-section provides comfort and protection from; exposure to outside elements, modesty exposure, discomfort from fabric being unseemly.
Band on the lower mid-section provides comfort and protection for a child by providing; ease whilst dressing and redressing, modesty when actively moving and stretching, adding an additional design feature to an outfit.
The top section of the vest has a slim design and provides a simple, clean and comfortable fit that facilities breath-ability and comfort when worn; point 2 on the diagram.
The top section of the vest and the band on the lower mid region of the vest are stitched together to make one vest; point 3 on the diagram. A conventional vest provides an extra layer of warmth and protection under external clothing. All vests (apart from vests with poppers) at present come loose easily from the clothing they are tucked into. This leaves a child with an exposed back and waist and can appear unseemly. Children are very active and under-popper vests over the age of two and three are not available to buy and are not practical for toddlers who are potty training.
Conventional vests are currently made of a one fabric composition from top to bottom. They are often difficult for a child to tuck in when dressing or redressing. The tucked in fabric can leave a bulky appearance under clothing.
There are many garments which cling too and sculpt the body of a child including underwear garments, bodysuits and even tight fitting fitness/swim wear. Other garments have an element of elastic but this tends to be for the purpose of support and shape. In addition to these garments, there are other clothing items which contain elastic or similar stretchable fabric.
Examples of the latter are found in the following: U.S. Patents: U.S. Pat. No. 6,076,187 (Wallerstein), U.S. Pat. No. 4,121,302 (Belpaume), U.S. Pub. No. US 2008/0134409 A1 (Karasina) considering these patents, the Wallerstein Patent discloses a man’s shirt made of a conventional woven non-stretch shirting material but which includes elastic elements woven there in at the shirt sides in the area of the torso. These elastic elements shape and sculpt the shirt in this area and prevent bunching and creasing of the shirt.
The Belpaume patent discloses an article of clothing for enveloping the upper part of the body, particularly garments and undergarments of this type manufactured for men women and children, having an extension to its back piece in the form of a shaped flap of curved lower contour, provided with elastic means and with its concavity facing upwards the flap being arranged to envelope and rest on and under the buttocks for the purpose of preventing the article of clothing riding up when the user bends forward or makes any large amplitude movement, the article of clothing being particularly adapted for sports and leisure garments. The Karasina Patent discloses a shirt for supporting and shaping mid-section of a wearer provides a shirt having a top section and a mid section. The mid section of the shirt includes an upper and lower region each constructed having a plurality of fabric densities or integrated elasticity potions. These elasticity portions provide support for the abdominal regions, back and back-side regions of the wearer were 'love handles' sometimes develop. The top section of the shirt has a substantially loose fitting construction to yield a simple, clean and comfortable fit that facilitates breathability and comfort to the wearer. The shirt maybe worn as an undershirt or as outwear to minimise the wearer torso. In another embodiment, this shirt further comprises an outer portion that extends over and covers the mid-section so that the mid-section acts as an internal support structure when the shirt is worn as a t-shirt or outwear.
In embodiment, the Snuggy Vest invention provides a vest for comfort and protection for the lower mid-region of a child, wherein the vest construction comprises of a top section and a band on the lower mid-section. The band on the lower mid-section is composed of a material that enables the band on the lower mid-section to form fit the lower mid-region, back and backside of a wearer when worn. In addition, the lower band section can be worn tucked into clothing providing a clean and smooth finish and can also be worn over outerwear to be a visible design feature to an outfit.
Several inventive steps were taken to create a vest suitable to provide comfort and protection of the lower mid-region of the child: see point 2 numbers a - e on the diagram a: Initial sample had a band which was the same width as the main body of the vest; this meant the vest did not remain secure on the body and became loose, b: A second sample was created with the band width narrower than the main body of the vest; this vest provided a snug fit however the fabric did not contain enough elastic to retain its shape. c: A third sample was created with the higher elasticity percentage and a band that was narrower than the main body width; however the band height was not deep enough and did not sit below abdominal waistline. d: A fourth sample was created with the higher elasticity percentage, a band that was narrower than the main body width and with a deeper waistband; this sample however became slightly puckered after active movement by the child. e: A fifth and final sample was created with higher elasticity percentage, a band that was narrower than the main body width, with a deeper waistband and the band being tapered down to the base of the band: all these factors combined enabled the vest to remain in place, sit on the lower mid-region of the child and retain shape during movement.
Claims (1)
