Abstract

A fastening plate for fitting a timber wall plate that supports roof rafters and joists to a brick wall. The plate is S-shaped, and sits on top of the wall whereby one limb A of the s-shaped plate rests against the wall and the other limb B is upstanding. The timber wall plate is placed onto the fastening plate and a bolt secures the timber wall plate to the wall which also passes through the S-shaped plate. The S-shaped plate supports the timber wall plate, and negates the requirement of mortar between the wall and timber wall plate. The S-shaped plate is made from metal, and is preferably in the form of an elongated plate (fig 3).

Description

Description
Figure 1 shows the current method of fitting the wall timber plate that supports and holds in place the roof rafters and joists. This process would involve the following.
Spreading mortar on top of the wall plate
Fit the timber
After the NHBC recommended 3-4 days drying time, return to drill bolts to secure the timber into the brick wall plate.
Often at this stage the mortar would break due to the vibrations of the drilling and would further delay the building process.
Figure 2 shows how the 'S-plate' would be used in the process.
You would remove the need to spread mortar onto the brick plate.
The process would involve fitting the S-plate system on top of the brick wall plate and then laying the timber on top of the S-plate.
Once this has been done you'd set the timber into position and drill the required bolt into the wall plate, thus securing the timber in place. A shows the section of the S-plate that will ensure the metal plate and timber doesn't move. B is showing the top section of the S-plate that will keep the bar from moving past the brick plate and ensure that the joist won't move.
Once the whole system is in place the S-plate will improve the timber wall plate system overall.
Figure 3
Shows the overall S-plate in place on top of the brick wall plate awaiting for the trusses to be fixed in place.

Claims (1)

  1. Claims A system that will replace the previous mortar process with a metal S shaped plate system to ensure stability and strength for the brick wall plate that attaches to the trusses. Will also improve the overall process of building a standard construction house saving time and money.
