A possible operating state of the vehicle (100) could be the wiping movement of the windscreen wipers.

Description

Description
Title
Method and device for operating at least one vehicle
The present invention relates to a method and to a device for operating at least one vehicle, wherein, depending on at least one determined operating state of the at least one vehicle, at least one weather-related piece of additional information of at least one detected traffic sign is recognised as relevant to the operating of the at least one vehicle .
Prior art DE 10 2012 005 965 B4 discloses a method and a device for transmitting information to the driver of a motor vehicle, the transmitted information relating to at least one driving situation to be expected, with different patterns being used for different kinds of driving situations. The different situations are thus adapted to an operating state of the vehicle, with speed limits being of great relevance to the operating state. DE 10 2013 219 909 A1 discloses a method and a device for recognising traffic signs, by means of a camera from a travelling vehicle. The method comprises a step of recording an image of a vehicle surroundings using a camera, a step of ascertaining the presence of at least one traffic sign, and a step of recognising the traffic sign by taking account of a sharpened image region. The sign may also be an additional sign with an additional sign text, which presents a particular difficulty. This is solved by steps of ascertaining and subtracting out a motion blur. This also enables the immediate reading of traffic signs with variable text component.
Disclosure of the invention
The method and the device according to the invention for operating at least one vehicle start from the point that at least one traffic sign having at least one weather-related piece of additional information is recognised and at least one operating state of the at least one vehicle is determined.
The essence of the invention consists in that depending on the at least one determined operating state of the at least one vehicle, the at least one weather-related piece of additional information of the at least one detected traffic sign is recognised as relevant to the operating of the at least one vehicle.
The at least one vehicle may be both an unmanned and a manned vehicle.
The advantage of the invention consists in that, by recognising the relevance of the at least one weather-related piece of additional information, the safety of the at least one vehicle is increased, since it is possible to operate the at least one vehicle by the method according to the invention while taking into account pieces of additional information.
Preferably the at least one weather-related piece of additional information having an additional and/or limiting effect for the traffic sign is recognised as relevant to the operating of the at least one vehicle.
This proves to be particularly advantageous since detecting the limiting effect is an important requirement for operating the vehicle, since this reduces the danger of excessive operation of the vehicle.
Preferably the at least one weather-related piece of additional information having an additional and/or limiting effect for the traffic sign is recognised as relevant to a weather-related operating of the at least one vehicle.
Since especially weather-related influences may constitute a high safety risk in the operating of a vehicle, it has proved to be extremely advantageous to recognise the at least one piece of additional information as relevant to a weather-related operating, in order to also take into account the aspect of the weather.
In a particularly advantageous embodiment the at least one weather-related piece of additional information is recognised as relevant to the operating of the at least one vehicle by the at least one traffic sign having the at least one weather-related piece of additional information signalling a first permissible maximum speed for the operating of the at least one vehicle.
An excessive speed constitutes one of the greatest risks for a vehicle. It is therefore of great advantage to perceive and comply with limits, especially in accordance with the weather conditions, for which the reliable recognition and thus perception are of utmost importance.
Preferably the at least one weather-related piece of additional information is recognised as relevant to the operating of the at least one vehicle by the at least one weather-related piece of additional information of the at least one traffic sign signalling a second permissible maximum speed for the operating of the at least one vehicle in such a way that the second permissible maximum speed is less than the first permissible maximum speed.
Especially a reduction of the speed, thus also a recognition of the lower speed due to the weather conditions compared with the otherwise possible maximum speed is imperative for a safe operation of the at least one vehicle. Furthermore, the recognition of the lower permissible maximum speed is imperative in order to operate the at least one vehicle in accordance with the rules, i.e. the current laws.
In a particularly preferred embodiment, the at least one operating state of the at least one vehicle is determined as the weather-related operating state.
The recognition of a weather-related operating state has the advantage that the at least one weather-related piece of additional information of the at least one traffic sign is recognised as relevant with higher probability.
Preferably the at least one operating state of the at least one vehicle is determined as a wiping movement of at least one windscreen wiper of the at least one vehicle.
This is a simple and cost-effective variant for recognising a weather-related operating state.
According to the invention a device for operating at least one vehicle is made available, wherein first means are provided, by means of which at least one traffic sign having at least one weather-related piece of additional information is detected. Furthermore second means are provided, by means of which at least one operating state of the at least one vehicle is determined. Further third means are provided, by means of which, depending on the at least one determined operating state of the at least one vehicle, the at least one weather-related piece of additional information of the at least one detected traffic sign is recognised as relevant to the operating of the at least one vehicle .
Preferably the third means are provided in such a way that the at least one weather-related piece of additional information having an additional and/or limiting effect for the traffic sign is recognised as relevant to the operating and/or the weather-related operating of the at least one vehicle. Moreover the at least one weather-related piece of additional information can be recognised as relevant to the operating of the at least one vehicle by the at least one traffic sign having the at least one weather-related piece of additional information signalling a first permissible maximum speed for the operating of the at least one vehicle. Furthermore the at least one weather-related piece of additional information can be recognised as relevant to the operating of the at least one vehicle by the at least one weather-related piece of additional information of the at least one traffic sign signalling a second permissible maximum speed for the operating of the at least one vehicle in such a way that the second permissible maximum speed is less than the first permissible maximum speed.
Preferably the second means are provided in such a way that the at least one operating state of the at least one vehicle is determined as the weather-related operating state and/or the at least one operating state of the at least one vehicle is determined as a wiping movement of at least one windscreen wiper of the at least one vehicle.
Advantageous developments of the invention are specified in the subclaims and recited in the description.
Drawings
Exemplary embodiments of the invention are illustrated in the drawing and are explained in more detail in the following description. In the drawing,
Figure 1 shows, purely by way of example, the at least one vehicle which comprises a device for carrying out the method according to the invention.
Figure 2 shows a flow diagram of an exemplary embodiment of the method according to the invention.
Embodiments of the invention
In Figure 1 there is shown, by way of example, a vehicle (100) which comprises the device (110) according to the invention. Furthermore, the vehicle (100) comprises headlights (103) and a windscreen wiper (105), which, both on the basis of an active wiping movement and a possible stoppage, describes at least one possible operating state of the vehicle (100). The windscreen wiper (105) is shown here, by way of example, as a windscreen wiper of a front window of the vehicle (100).
The device (110) comprises first means (111), by means of which at least one traffic sign with at least one piece of additional information can be recognised. This recognition takes place with the aid of a sensor (101) of the vehicle which is designed to recognise traffic signs. The sensor may be, for example, a video sensor or another sensor for receiving signals which are emitted by the at least one traffic sign in such a way that the information of the traffic sign can be transmitted and received. These first means (111) are designed in such a way that both the traffic sign and pieces of additional information belonging to the traffic sign, for example in the form of an image and/or text, are recognised and evaluated for carrying out the method according to the invention. In particular, weather-related pieces of additional information are recognised and accordingly evaluated.
The device (110) further comprises second means (112), by means of which at least one operating state of the vehicle (100) is determined. Various operating states, such as, for example, the moving of the vehicle (100) and/or the actuating of the windscreen wiper (105) and/or the actuating of the air conditioning system and/or the actuating of the ventilation and/or the lowering or raising of at least one window and/or the actuating of at least one headlight (103) and/or further weather-related operating states, are possible.
In addition, the device (110) of the vehicle (100) comprises third means (113), by means of which, depending on the at least one determined operating state of the vehicle (100), the at least one weather-related piece of additional information of the at least one detected traffic sign is recognised as relevant to the operating of the at least one vehicle. The third means (113) are further configured in such a way that, for example depending on an operating state of the vehicle (100), such as the actuating of the windscreen wiper (105), conclusions are drawn about the current weather. For a reliable recognition and/or determination of the weather, a plurality of operating states, as already recited by way of example, may also be determined and used for evaluating the weather. For example, a switching-on of the headlights (103) and a switching-on of the windscreen wipers (105) may suggest weather such as rain and/or snow and/or fog. It is thus possible to take into account a limitation of the speed as is prescribed in some countries, for example, in the case of a wet roadway, which otherwise, in the case of a dry roadway, would have no relevance to the operating of the vehicle (100) .
In Figure 2 there is shown, by way of example, a possible embodiment of the method according to the invention in the form of a flow diagram.
In step 201 the method begins.
In step 202 a traffic sign which indicates a speed limit, together with a piece of additional information which indicates a further reduction of the prescribed maximum speed in the case of a wet roadway, is recognised by means of the first means (111) .
In step 203 an operating state of the vehicle (100) is determined in such a way that a conclusion can be drawn about the current weather. If such a conclusion can be drawn, step 204 follows, otherwise step 205 follows.
In step 204 the actually permissible maximum speed is recognised on the basis of the determined weather.
In step 205 the method ends.
