MODULAR BEAM FOR LARGE AREA BUILDING ROOFS

DESCRIPTION

SUBJECT OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to a modular beam for large area building roofs, which provides essential features of novelty and notable advantages compared with the beams known and used in the present state of the art with regard to roofs of large area buildings such as industrial buildings, sports arenas, shopping centres, department stores, etc. In broad outline, the invention has developed a modular beam for roofs of large area buildings, the constructions of which comprise known means of building, such as supporting means based on portal frames or half frames and roofing means based on elements formed by sheeting or other materials for the purpose.

More specifically, the invention consists of a modular beam for large area building roofs, which comprises a modular structure to be arranged on the supporting means and to whose series of beams the elements which make up the roofing means are subsequently fastened.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

At present, the construction systems for large area building roofs are executed on the basis of the corresponding supporting means formed by portal frames or half frames formed by two columns joined together by an angular lintel, the lintel possibly being formed by two angled sections joined together by their free ends to form the lintel, which will support the conventional beams on which the roofing means will rest.

The conventional beams used at present in this type of construction are dimensioned depending on the span between the supporting means, which involves the use of internal ridges and tongues welded on to the liritels of the supporting means, at the place where the above-mentioned conventional beams are going to rest, which beams also generally being of considerable weight, therefore requiring that the supporting means be reinforced by means of corresponding ties. * 2

DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

The present invention consists of a modular beam for large area building roofs which, in addition to being arranged between the supporting means and roofing means, is formed by means of a plate of -preferably metal -rigid material of an inverted "U" section, with flanges on its longitudinal ends provided with alignments of holes, equidistant from one another.

One of the features of the invention is that the flanges are used as a seat on the lintels of the portal frames of the supporting means.

Another feature of the invention is that the holes are used for fastening by means of bolting on to the lintels.

Another feature of the invention is that the holes are also used for fastening the superimposed ends of two modular beams which are the subject of the present invention.

All of this will be explained in greater detail throughout the description which follows below.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

The subject of the invention will be described on the basis of the accompanying drawings in which, by way of example and therefore without any limiting nature, a preferred form of embodiment has been shown.

The foHowing has been shown in these drawings: Figure 1 shows a perspective view of the modular beam for large area building roofs which is the subject of the present invention, arranged and bolted on to a lintel of the supporting means.

Figure 2 is a perspective view of two modular beams for large area building roofs which are the subject of the present invention, arranged and bolted on to the two sections of the Lintel of a half frame of the supporting means.

Figure 3 is a perspective view of a series of modular beams for large area building roofs which are the subject of the present invention, arranged and bolted on to one of the lintels of the supporting means.

Finally, figure 4 shows a perspective view of several modular beams for large area building roofs which are the subject of the present invention, arranged and bolted on to three portal frames of the supporting means.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION

The following detailed description of the preferred embodiment of the invention will be given, taking as a basis the attached drawings, in which corresponding or similar parts have been marked with the same numerical references throughout the various different illustrations.

As can be observed in accordance with the drawings mentioned, the modular beam (1) for large area building roofs which is the subject of the present invention, is formed by means of a rectangular plate of -preferably metal -rigid material of an inverted "U" section with diverging side walls (11) and with flanges (12) on its longitudinal edges, whilst the junctions of the side walls (11) with the central section (13) each have longitudinal chamfers (14).

In their central areas, the side walls (11) each have, longitudinally, slightly angular recesses (15) provided with alignments of holes (16) equidistant from one another.

The flanges (12) have a slightly angular formation and are provided with alignments of holes (17) equidistant from one another.

On the basis of the structure described, the modular beam (1) for large area building roofs which is the subject of the present invention is used as follows: * 4 The modular beam (1) is arranged on the conventional supporting means (2) in a parallel arrangement and formed by portal frames based on columns (21) and lintels (22) or by half frames with lintels (22) formed by sections (221), in such a way that the flanges (12) of the modular beams (1) rest on the top surfaces of the lintels (22) of the portal frames or their sections (211) [sic] of the half frames.

The sections (221) of the half frames are joined together by corresponding conventional means (3) based on nuts and bolts, as can be seen in figures 1 and 2 of the accompanying drawings.

Specifically, the modular beams (1) are arranged with their flanges (12) on the lintels (22) and are fastened by means of bolts (18) in the holes (17) which line up with the corresponding lintel (22).

In addition, two modular beams (1) arranged in longitudinal alignment are superimposed by their matching ends on the corresponding lintel (22) and the bolts (18) passing through the matching holes of the superimposed flanges (12), as can be observed in figure 3 of the accompanying drawings.

The joint of the two modular beams (1) in longitudinal alignment is also strengthened because, in the superimposed areas of the modular beams (1), nuts and bolts are also arranged in the matching holes (16) of both modular beams (1).

In the ridge cap areas of lintels (22), alignments of modular beams (1) are arranged in parallel with two of their flanges (12) superimposed and passed through by the bolts (18) in their holes (17) to carry out the combined fastening of the two parallel modular beams (1) to the corresponding area of the lintel (22).

Once all the modular beams (1) have been arranged on the lintels (22) of the supporting means (2), the roofing means, formed by conventional elements, are arranged on the said modular beams (1). * 5

Therefore, with the modular beam (1) for large area building roofs, there can be the following advantages: -Having modular beams (1) of different lengths, made in accordance with the spans to be covered and the length of which can be materialized and made more precise, even on the site itself by means of transverse cutting of the metal plates.

-Simple, convenient connection, depending on the lining up of the holes (17) and (16) between two modular beams (1), the ends of which are superimposed, both between one another and on the lintels (22), also making possible connection in a variable manner, depending on increasing or reducing the superimposed area between the two modular beams (1).

-The modular beams (1) are for any length of spans between lintels (22), without the need to increase their section, as with conventional beams, as it will be sufficient to increase the areas of superimposition between the two modular beams (1).

These modular beams (1) also determine better accessibility and simplification in assembling and dismantling this type of structure, ease of transport and storage as the beams (1) are fully stackable as they nest and furthermore require less labour, all of which has the effect of a considerable reduction in costs of manufacture, fitting and dismantling.

It is not considered necessary to extend the content of this description in order for a person skilled in the art to understand its scope and execute the practical embodiment of the subject described.

Nevertheless and as, in the foregoing, only one preferred embodiment of the subject of the invention has been described, it is clear that, within its essence, multiple variations can be introduced, without this involving any alteration of the invention. These * 6 modifications can affect, in particular, the form, size and/or materials of manufacture, its essential points being those which are reflected in the following claims: * 7
