Abstract
A hood is formed from two sheets of material 2 and 3, possibly of silk or satin, attached to a head band 1. Each sheet is edged with a fastening means 5, such as hook and look tape, which allows the device to enclose the hair. Panels 4 of hook and loop tape are secured to ends of the sheets and serve to hold the ends of the hair in place during use.
Description

The Sleep Straight Night hood After having had long straight hair
extensions for the past 18 months I have realised that the downside of having long straight hair is trying to preserve the style at night while I am sleeping.

Wearing my hair down at night is a big no no as it causes hair to tangle.

Most women either plat their hair at night but in the morning you wake up with kinks in your hair which is not much fun if you have paid a hairdresser to blow dry hair straight the day before! Or you can put it in a bun and find yourself heating up the straightening irons in the morning to get the dents out your head.

Everyone knows that excessive heat styling is bad for your hair but we still have to look nice and as a result make our hair suffer causing dry brittle split end riddled hair because we use our straightening irons far too much.

Even pulling hair back with a hair band or a scrunchie during sleep can damage hair by causing tension resulting in breakage to the hair.

There are some sleep hats on the market at the moment, which I have tried, but found they either fall off in the night or still cause wavy hair in the morning.

I have also tried scarves but they always fall off After some research I have found this is a common problem. Some people especially those with Afro Caribbean hair might wrap their hair at night but after time that will cause thinning and breakage.

Afro Caribbean hair is particularly troublesome as it tends to frizz in the night and holds any indentation made by hair band and scrunchies longer and I find that if I have such an indention in my hair there is no alternative but to get the hair dryer out and blow my hair out straight again. Also Afro hair is usually dry and many hairdressers will recommend sleeping on a silk or satin pillow to reduce friction of the hair shaft during sleep as silk or satin will not absorb oil from the hair.

Although anyone who straightens their hair has the same dilemma at night and I have found that most people with European hair either reach for the heat stylers in thc morning, brush out the tangles and suffer frizzy hair for the day or they wash out the style and start from scratch if they want sleek straight hair.

My invention is radically different from the normal sleep hats and hoods.

First of all you will not have to pile all your hair on the top of your head or wrap it, as the hood hangs down your back as long as the length of hair. The sleep straight can be made to 3 sizes for short, medium and long hair.

I

It will be secured just below the hair line by a elasticated headband similar to a sweatband and attached to that will be two separate sheets of silk or satin so is does not cause friction to the hair shaft and absorb the oil from the hair, ach side of the silk that is not attached to the headband will have a Velcr'hem, this will seal the sleep straight creating a sealed envelope for the hair. One piece of silk is attached at the top as you put it on and the other at the bottom underneath the hair so that all the hair is resting on top of it. Then you give the hair final brush before sealing the two pieces of silk together using the Velcrfabs.

On the inside of the silk at the bottom there is a wide sheet of Velcrc similar to the material used in Velcro rollers to hold the ends in place.

Figure 1 shows the Sleep Straight hood as f you're looking down before application.

Figure 2 shows the view of the first stage of application.

Figure 3 shows the sleep straight fully positioned.

In figure 1, 1 indicates the headband which secures the sleep straight to the head, which is, attached to 2 the top piece of fabric and also 3 the bottom piece of fabric.

Attached to both top and bottom fabrics are 4 which are the Velcr'sheets to hold the ends in place.

Finally 5 are the Velcrealing tabs used to seal the materials together.

Figure 2 shows how the headband 1 sits around the head and 6 is the position of the hair. 2 and 3 show the position of the material as the wearer prepares to bring the materials together.

Figure 3 shows how the sleep straight should look when it is sealed and the application is complete. In figure 3 all the hair is encased in the sleep straight.

Claims (1)
-
Claims 1. The sleep straight hood preserves the life of your hairstyleby letting the wearer sleep while the hair is sandwiched between 2 pieces of silk/satin while the Velcrpanels in the sleep straight hold the hair in place without the use of any other hair band.

2. The sleep straight will save time in the morning on hair as restyling is cut out.

3. As the sleep straight hood keeps hair straight overnight use of hot flat irons and hair dryers will be reduced thus resulting in less breakage of hair, less split ends and less heat damage if used over time.

4. The sleep straight will prevent hair extensions looking tatty in the morning.

5. The sleep straight will benefit all those who have to blow dry and flat iron their hair to get it straight keeping their style for another day.

6. The sleep straight is great for people who chemically relax their hair in particular as the silk/satin material retains moisture and the hairs natural oils. Also the sleep straight is a great alternative to wrapping at night.

7. The sleep straight will reduce tangles and knots during sleep by keeping hair under control without the use of bands or scrunchies as the Velcro sheets hold the hair in place.

8. The material in the sleep straight will prevent chaffing of the hair shaft during sleep.

9. There is no need to tie hair into ponytails or buns when using the sleep straight resulting in less breakage over time.
