Abstract

The filter includes at least one generally screw shaped passage, which increases path length of the smoke passing through it. The cigarette includes a wrapped tube of tobacco received within an interface 3, a filter 1, and paper 2 surrounding the filter 1 and interface 3. The filter 1 includes a screw shaped passage which might extends axially through the filter or be plugged by a conventional filter 6. Preferably the passage comprises a central hole 4 with helical grooves 5 in its wall, or spiral(s) 7.

Description

A Filter Tip The present invention relates to a filter tip of or for a

cigarette.

A conventional filter tip is joined at one end, i.e. the inhalation end, to a cigarette. A cigarette filter is conventionally made up of flock fiber material wrapped in filtration encasing paper. When smoke is inhaled into human body through the cigarette filter, parts of the harmful components are adsorbed into the cigarette filter, reducing the quantity of harmful components, e.g. tar, inhaled by the smoker. In the main there are two constructions for conventional filter tips.

One is a cylindrical, column-like filter which is wrapped in filtration encasing paper and there is an interface with the main body of the cigarette at one end of the filter tip. The disadvantage of this kind of filter tip is that the axial length of the filter tip is limited by the intercellular spaces of the cigarette filter's fibers. Along with the length of cigarette filter increasing, there is also an increase in the resistance of smoke passing through the cigarette filter.

If the length of the cigarette filter is too long the smoker will feel discomforted and the quality of the cigarette will be influenced. Another kind is the cigarette filter which is provided with an axial via with different sectional shapes, such as star shape or

triangular etc. The axial via penetrates the cigarette filter and directly leads to the inhalation end of the cigarette. The axial dimension of this kind of filter tip is normally relatively long, with the aim that by increasing the axial dimension of the filter tip to increase adsorbing area of the cigarettes filter to the smoke, a good filtering effect will be achieved. A problem is that the axial dimension of the filter tip is relatively long and decreasing the length of the filter tip would weaken the filtering effect.

Therefore, conventional filter tips of cigarettes have contradictions between the axial length of the filter tip of the cigarette and the smoke resistance, as well as between the axial length of the filter tip and the filtering effect.

The filter tip of the present invention adopts a technical solution that there is at least one screw-ship tunnel in a cigarettes filter. Said screw-ship tunnel adds path length of fog crossing the cigarettes filter and enlarges adsorbing area of cigarettes filter to the fog. Under the centrifugal force, injurant in the fog can be more adsorbed on wall of the tunnel.

A screw-ship tunnel of the cigarettes filter of the filter tip of the present invention may impenetrate the cigarettes filter.

A screw-ship tunnel of the cigarettes filter of the filter tip of the present invention may also not impenetrate the cigarettes filter.

A cigarettes filter of the filter tip of the present invention can has multiple screw-ship tunnels.

Adopting above structure, under the premise of not increasing air clogging, the screw-ship tunnel of the cigarettes filter of the filter tip of the present invention increases the path length of the smoke crossing the cigarettes filter and enlarges adsorbing area of the cigarettes filter to injurant in the smoke, so as to achieve the object of improving filtering effect of the cigarettes filter of the cigarette. There is thus provided a cigarette filter tip with low smoke resistance and improved filtering effect.

The present invention will be better understood from following, detailed description of preferred embodiments of the invention, made with reference to the drawings.

In the drawings FIG.l is a cutaway view of the first embodiment of a filter tip of the present invention. The filter tip includes a cigarette filter 1, filtration encasing paper 2 and an interface 3. FIG.l shows the cigarette filter 1 having a hole 4, the wall of which has generally screw-shaped grooves 5. In use, when smoke enters the cigarette filter 1 through the interface 3, it flows along the hole 4. Some of the harmful components in the smoke is adsorbed by the wall of the hole 4 and surface of the screw-shaped grooves 5. Because the extending length of the screw grooves 5 is larger than the axial dimension of the filter tip, its filtering effect is better than the filter tips of the prior art.

FIG.2 shows the second embodiment of a filter tip of the present invention. As can be seen in FIG.2, the cigarette filter 1 has a generally screw-shaped or helical hole 7 extending along the axial length of the cigarettes filter 1. When smoke enters the cigarette filter 1 through the interface 3 it flows along the hole 7. Some of the harmful components in the smoke is adsorbed on the wall of the hole 7. Because the extending ( length of the hole 7 is larger than the axial dimension of the filter tip, its filtering effect is better than

the filter tips of the prior art.

FIG. 3 shows third embodiment of a filter tip of the present invention. The hole 4 with generally screw-shaped grooves 5 on the cigarette filter 1 of the filter tip does not penetrate the cigarette filter 1. There is a barrier 6 between the hole 4 and the interface 3. The barrier 6 can provide filtering effect like the filter tips of the prior art, and the hole 4 connected with it with screw-shaped grooves 5 provides a secondary filtering effect, to cause better filtering overall.

FIG. 4 shows the fourth embodiment of a filter tip of the present invention. As is seen in FIG.4, the cigarette filter 1 is provided with four generally screw-shaped, or helical, holes 7. The screw-shaped holes 7 extend axially through the cigarette filter 1. After the smoke enters the cigarette filter 1 through the interface 3, it will flow through the holes 7. Part of the harmful components in the smoke will be adsorbed on the walls of the holes 7. Because the extending length of the hole 7 is larger than axial dimension of the filter tip, its filtering effect is better than the filter tips of the prior art.

CLAIMS

1. A filter tip, comprising: a cigarette filter, filtration encasing paper and an interface, wherein the cigarette filter is provided with at least one generally screw-shaped passage.

2. The filter tip as claimed in claim 1, wherein the generally screw-shaped passage is a hole, the wall of which has at least one generally screw-shaped groove provided by the cigarette filter.

3. The filter tip as claimed in claim 1, wherein said at least one generally screw-shaped passage extends axially through the cigarette filter.

4. The filter tip as claimed in claim 1, 2 or 3, wherein the generally screw-shaped passage is formed in the material of the cigarette filter.

5. The filter tip as claimed in claim 1, 2 or 3, wherein the generally screw-shaped passage is not formed in the material of the cigarette filter.

6. The filter tip as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein a plurality of said generally screw-shaped passages are provided.

7. A filter tip substantially as described herein with reference to the accompanying drawings.
