Abstract

An air brick flood cover has a front plate 1 with a compressible sealing strip 2 to form a seal against the air brick 4. The device is attached to the air brick channels 5 by means of two supports, which may be hooks, clasps or clips 3. In the case of the clips 3, they grip the airbrick posts 6 which form the edges of the channels 5. No modification to the existing airbrick or surrounding brickwork is required.

AIRBRICK FLOOD COVER
The invention relates to an airbrick flood cover which includes a front plate, edged with a pliable strip, mounted to securing hooks.
Such guards are known but suffer from the disadvantage that they require some work to install. Often a back plate must be fixed to the wall around the airbrick to which a guard is attached.
The aim of this invention is to provide a simple means by which to protect premises from flooding. Construction/installation is not required which allows for easy attachment and use.
Therefore this invention provides an airbrick cover plate mounted to two securing clips and edged with a pliable seal or gasket. The combination of a pliable seal and tightly fitting securing clips provides an adequate seal between the cover and airbrick. The cover can be constructed from treated wood, plastic or metal to blend in with the overall decoration of the property.
A description of the invention will now be provided in conjunction with the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows a back view of the airbrick cover Figure 2 shows a side view including the pliable edging strip and securing clip.
Figure 3 illustrates the means of attachment of the cover.
As shown in Figure 1 and Figure 2 the cover comprises a solid plate I, having a pliable edging strip 2 and securing clips 3 attached to the back.
Figure 3 shows means of attaci-mient of the cover to the airbrick 4 via the securing clips 3 (which can be varied depending upon the size/exact nature of the airbricks in question).
The cover is fixed to the airbrick 4 by inserting the securing clips 3 into the airbrick channels 5. Pushing against the front plate I ensures that the pliable seal 2 is compressed against the plate I and the front of the airbrick 4. This provides a tight seal to limit the degree of flooding and more importantly the ingress of solid matter during flooding. The clips 3 are secured via attachment to the airbrick posts 6.
The plate 1 is preferably constructed from wood or plastic but it may also be made from metal. The pliable edging strip 2 is a seal or gasket preferably constructed from rubber, plastic or foam or a combination of these.
The ease of design allows for a simple push-pull attachment and disconnection of the cover.

Claims (8)

  1. I) Airbrick flood cover consisting of a front plate (edged by a pliable material) mounted on two supports for attachment to an airbrick.
  2. 2) An airbrick flood cover as claimed in Claim 1 where the plate is comprised of metal, plastic, wood or rubber or a combination of these materials.
  3. 3) An airbrick flood cover as claimed in Claim I and Claim 2 where the attachment to an airbrick is via a hook, clasp or clip.
  4. 4) An airbrick flood cover as claimed in Claim 1, Claim 2 and Claim 3 where the seal to the airbrick is via a rubber, plastic or foam seal or gasket or any combination of these materials.
  5. 5) An airbrick flood cover as claimed in Claim 1, 2, 3 and 4 which attaches directly to the airbrick.
  6. 6) An airbrick flood cover as claimed in any preceding claim made from metal, plastic or wood (or any combinations of these materials).
  7. 7) An airbrick flood cover as claimed in any proceeding claim which is made from metal, plastic or wood or a combination of these materials.
  8. 8) An airbrick flood cover as herein described above and illustrated in the accompanying diagrams.
