Abstract
A door formed from a metal panel 5, with insulating material 4, has a perimeter lip 6 to which are attached a plurality of F-shaped profiles 1. A decorative facing 2 is held within the opening 7 formed by the parallel arms of the F-shaped profiles. The profiles are preferably attached by their orthogonal portions 8, for example by stapling, riveting, screwing or adhesion, and may be permanently or removably fixed.
Description
METAL DOOR WITH INTEGRAL DECORATIVE FACING
DESCRIPTION
Field of the invention
The present invention relates to a metal door with integral decorative facing, of the type comprising at least one metal panel, internal insulation and optionally a second panel closing the space accommodating said insulation.
Background of the invention
When constructing and decorating buildings, it is common practice to use metal doors, since they fulfil two main functions: they are weatherresistant and can withstand use as exterior doors and they act as fire barriers in case of fire, isolating parts of the building.
Said doors preferably consist of a metal panel, of wide U-shaped section, with a lip extending around all or part of its perimeter. The internal cavity of the panel may contain solid insulation, such as wood or the like, glued or adhered, and an interior finish. In other cases, where the insulation takes the form of solidifiable foam or particles, a second metal panel is positioned for closing purposes over the U-shaped panel and riveted, welded or fixed by any other means over the lip of the U- shaped panel, so creating a closed space or chamber for the thermal insulation. In either of these two cases, it is generally necessary to position a decorative element on at least one of the sides of the door, preferably the inside, to match the decor of the walls.
Attaching said decorative facing is generally problematic, since such attachment has to be strong and at the same time provide a suitable perimeter finish.
Summary of the invention
The metal door with integral decorative facing constituting the subject matter of the present registration comprises a means for easily and reliably fastening a decorative facing to one of the sides, to accord with the decor of the zone where it will be on show.
In fact, the new invention may be applied to any type of metal door consisting of at least one panel, whether of the open or closed type. Said invention consists of a series of profiles in the form of an "F" or the like, which may be coupled to the periphery of the metal door and which hold in place the decorative facing of wood veneer, by its edges, providing an aesthetically pleasing finish, great ease of assembly and disassembly and additional insulation to that provided by the insulation situated inside the U-shaped panel.
The F-shaped profile has a lateral U-shaped opening formed by two parallel longitudinal branches, in which is inserted the wooden facing. The orthogonal branch, for its part, is suitable for attachment thereof to the main panel of the door, preferably over the lip extending around the latter. This assembly may be fixed together by riveting, stapling, screwing, welding, adhesion, etc., those fixing methods being preferred which allow replacement of the profile so as to change the wooden facing in the event of damage thereto or a change of decor.
Description of the drawings
As a supplement to the present description and to assist in understanding the features of the invention, the present specification is accompanied by a set of drawings in which, by way of non-limiting illustration: - Figure 1 is a cross-sectional view of a metal door of the closed type or with two panels and with the decorative facing in place.
- Figure 2 is a cross-sectional view of a metal door of the open type or with a single panel and with the decorative facing in place.
Description of preferred embodiment
As is clear from the above-mentioned Figures, although not limiting the invention in any way an embodiment preferably comprises a door consisting of a U-shaped panel (5) with a lip (6) extending around all or part of its perimeter, an internal thermally insulating material (4) and optionally a closing panel (3) stapled or riveted over said lip (6). On the inside of the panel (5) constituting the door there is provided a decorative panel (2) of wood veneer or the like, with its edge disposed in the opening (7) between parallel branches of a series of profiles (I) of F-shaped cross-section.
Said profiles (1) are disposed around the panel (5) and are connected to said lip (6) by means of the orthogonal branch (8), by stapling, riveting, screwing, adhesion or any other connecting means, of fixed or removable type.
Now that the nature of the invention has been sufficiently described, as has a preferred example of embodiment thereof, it should appropriately be noted that the materials, shape, size and arrangement of the elements described may be modified, provided that such modification does not involve any change to the essential features of the invention claimed hereinafter.
Claims (2)
- CLAIMS: 1.- A metal door with integral decorative facing, of the typecomprising at least one metal panel (5) constituting the door with a perimeter lip (6), an internal insulating material (4) and optionally a second metal panel (3) closing the space occupied by the insulating material (4), characterised in that it comprises a plurality of profiles (1) of F- shaped cross-section disposed around the panel (5) and connected to said lip (6), a decorative facing (2) being attached by said profiles (1); and in that the edge of the facing (2) is disposed in the opening (7) formed by the two parallel branches of the F-shaped profiles (1) oriented towards the inside of the door.
- 2.- A door according to claim 1, characterised in that the profiles (1) are connected to the panel (5) of the door by removable means capable of allowing the facing (2) to be changed.
