Abstract
A device is disclosed for tracking and locating moveable objects. The device comprises a GSM and a GPS module arranged to transmit and receive electronic information including location data which can be sent to a remote monitoring station enabling the position of the moveable object to be accurately determined. The device may comprise more than one power supply such as a battery and a solar cell. The device may be arranged to receive SMS messages which may be used to activate the GPS module.
Description
24 1 9057 Title Property, goods and chapels tracking device.
Baclround This invention is capable of transmitting the location of moveable property, goods and chattels and identifying the owner of the property, goods and chapels.
When an item is lost stolen or misplaced there is no systematic and/or efficient method to locate the item of property and identify the owner through a unique identifying code.
Statement of Invention
To overcome this the present invention proposes a small electronic circuit board on which components, comprising a global messaging signal and global positioning satellite module(s), are fixed. The electronic components enable the transmission and receipt of data sufficient to locate the property, goods and/or chattels and identify the owner. 'l'he transmission and receipt of signals may be either active (switched "on" all the time) or passive (on "standby"). 'I'he circuit board is placed inside an outer protective case with a battery as a power source. There are at least two other sources of power, including solar power if necessary, to ensure sufficient power for the purposes of transmitting and receiving signals.
Advantages The transmission of a signal via a satellite will enable the location of the property, goods or chattels to be fixed accurately and consequently the lost, stolen or misplaced property can be identified, recovered and returned to its owner.
Preferably, the outer casing will be tamper proof, as small as possible to enable concealment or disguise, and incorporate an aerial attachment for transmission/receipt of signals.
Preferably, the invention would be capable of having several different power supplies disguised or concealed to enable the battery located in or very near to the outer protective case to re-charge, enabling the maximum power of the battery to be available when the invention is requested to transmit a signal. This will ensure that the period of transmission is extended for a long time. Solar energy cells may be used.
Preferably, the design of the outer protective casing can be changed easily allowing the size and shape of each tracking device to be adapted for use in different types of property, goods or chattels.
Preferably, the device can be retrieved from its usual resting place, possibly using a mechanical device, to enable replacement or servicing of the device its components or power source. 1:
An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawings; Figure I is a schematic representation of the necessary components.
Figure 2 (a), (b) and ( c) shows possible sites for the application of the tracking device; (a) In a cavity of e.g. a picture frame, (b) Within the hollow tubing of a bicycle (c) Applied to the outside of items having no cavities.
Detailed description
Example 1. Bike Mounted System All sub components fit within tube capable of being concealed within the tubing of the bicycle.
The device is self sufficient in power and has an estimated life span of 2 years.
'I'he device lies dormant until a signal from the Tracking System is received.
The device components include a transponder which is programmed with unique identifier information during manufacture.
The device transmits a signal that can be tracked for a period of one month.
The device receives and transmits a signal via a concealed or disguised antenna.
The device can withstand temperature differences.
The device can be reset remotely should it be accidentally activated.
The device is positioned and removed by the use of special tools.
The device incorporates a casing capable of being locked in position or prevented from moving.
The information programmed into the chip is read by a hand held scanning device without its removal from the frame.
