Abstract
An upholstered armchair unit (1), when assembled, comprises a first part (2) which may be a seat, a second part (5 and 6) which may be a table and a third part (12) which may be footstool or pouffe. The armchair is able to be disassembled into the three parts, (see figure 3b) via the use of a series of brackets and flaps (3 and 4). The armrests of the armchair may be pivoted inwards to the centre of the seat via hinges and magnetic catches (7, 10 and 11). In the disassembled state each of the three parts is able to function as a separate and different item of furniture from its other two parts, as shown in Figure 3b.
Description
241 884 1 Convertible armchair This invention relates to an upholstered
armchair which converts into three separate units and functions simultaneously.
Due to a lack of space in homes and the need to meet the demands of the housing market, compact living as become an increasingly attractive option for many who cannot afford the raising cost of living space.
To over come this problem the present invention proposes a fully upholstered seating unit composed of three completely separate assembled parts, each part being able to function as an individual unit or together as a whole.
Preferably the member parts will be constructed using a KDF ( Knock Down Furniture) manufacturing system. One member part will function as back and seat for the armchair and when disconnected from the other member parts will function independently as a high back chair.
Preferably another member part, being the arms of the armchair will then be disconnected from the other member parts and fold in towards the centre and secured together, which would then function separately as a table or part of a whole unit, as arms for the armchair.
Preferable another member part the front platform of the armchair will then become disconnected form the other member parts, this member part will function separately as a upholstered seat or together as a whole unit for the front of the armchair seat.
Each member part being disconnected will function independently of each other or be re - assembled to function as one complete unit.
The invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows the member parts together to form one complete a,b,c,e unit of an armchair.
Figure 2 shows the member parts when they are disassembled.
Figure 3 shows the disassembled parts separated and functiorling abc independently of each other.
In figure 1 an armchair unit 1 comprising of member part 2 which is attached and secured by use of brackets 3 and flaps 4 to member part and 6, which can be folded towards the centre using parts 7 counter hinges which are housed in parts 8 and 9 upper arms of parts 5 and 6 which is secured by use of parts10 and 11 magnetic catches. Part 12 is removed by releasing from part 13 sleeves which is attached to parts and 6.
Figure 2 shows member part 2 removed from unit member part 1.
Member part 2 can now function independently as a chair. The appearance of member part 2 may change in form, texture, colour and structure, but will always compliment the whole unit member part 1.
Member part 2 may be constructed in wood; metal; plastic or a combination of either, but will have an upholstered finish and will function as a dining chair.
Figure 2 also shows that when member part 2 is disconnected from unit member part 1 by way of releasing brackets 3 and flaps 4, then arms 5 and 6 will then be released from seat front 12. Arms 5 and 6 will then be able to come together by folding member part 14 into a V section at the base. When base 14 is folded, parts 8 and 9 will also unfold using bar counter hinges7 and secured by parts 10 and 11 magnets, which would then enable parts 5 and 6 to function independently as a table.
Figure 2 also shows that when member part 2 and member parts 5 and 6 are disconnected, which secures member part 12 by the use of sleeves 13. Part 12 is then able to function independently of unit 1 as an upholstered seat. Member part 12 (seat) will compliment member part 5 and 6 ( table) and member part 2 ( chair).
Figure 3 shows unit 1 divided into three separate functions i.e. Unit member 2 is a chair seat. Unit member parts 5 and 6 is a table. Unit member part 12 is an upholstered seating.
The final appearance of the unit is subject to aesthetic changes and types of materials used to manufacture the armchair, e.g fabric; wood; plastic; foam rubber; glass; metal, or a combination of either of these materials.
