Abstract

A Sliding Scale includes a slider 2 with cut outs (windows) through which, when correctly positioned over a scale 3, can be seen the required musical notes necessary by the musician when selecting a chord or scale.

Description

24 1 5085 The Sliding Scale
Description
The invention relates to an item made up of two modules similar to a mathematician's slide rule.
As the slide rule is an aid to mathematicians the Sliding Scale is an aid to aspiring musicians of all standards, from beginners to the more accomplished.
An object of this invention is to provide musicians with an easy method of establishing the notes which make up various musical chords in particular keys.
Accordingly, this invention provides a musical sliding scale made up of two pieces, one showing the notes over two octaves and the other, slightly larger in order to slide over the first, with cut outs (windows), which, when in position will show the notes making up the required chord or scale.
It can be used easily to transpose from one key to another.
By reading from the fifth in thirds, notes of the seventh, ninth, eleventh and thirteenth can be found in every key.
Likewise, reading from the second in thirds, notes of the minor seventh, ninth, eleventh and thirteenth can be found in every key The Sliding Scale finds all notes of the major scale in all keys. It also identifies the modes of major scales in all keys and enables the user to find modal chords in all keys.
Preferably the sliding scale Is made of plastic material, but it may be made of wood or a combination of both.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: FIGURE 1 shows the sliding module.
FIGURE 2 shows the rule depicting the notes over two octaves.
FIGURE 3 shows the complete item with the sliding module in position over the rule.
FIGURE 4 shows the complete item as in Fig 3 with full text on the sliding module.
Figure 1 shows the sliding module 1.2 with cut outs (windows) 1.1 which when positioned over the scale (Figure 2) will show the required notes in the chosen chord or scale.
Figure 2 shows the scale. 2.3 illustrates the musical notes over two octaves.
Figure 3 shows the two modules with the sliding module (Fig.1) in position over the scale (Fig 2) to form the complete Sliding Scale.
figure 4 shows the whole invention (Fig 3) complete with text on the sliding module (Fig 1)

Claims (3)

1. A musical sliding scale consisting of two modules, one illustrating the musical notes over two octaves and the other with cut outs which when positioned correctly over the other will show the required musical notes in a given chord or scale.
2. A musical sliding scale which is preferably made from plastic but may be constructed of wood or a combination of both materials.
3. A musical sliding scale substantially as herein described and Illustrated in the accompanying drawings
