Abstract

A razor blade (1) in the form of a flexible plate having a cutting edge and a gripping edge. The gripping edge is arranged (by the provision of recesses 3, 4A and 4B) to be gripped between human fingers or a thumb and fingers to enable the fingers or thumb and fingers to bend the razor blade (1) to a curved shape. The cutting edge operates when the razor blade (1) is drawn across the human scalp with gripping edge acting as the leading edge in direction of movement.

Description

Title: SEIAVING IMPLEMENT The present invention relates to a shaving
implement and, more particularly, but not solely, to a razor blade for shaving the scalp.
Shaving the scalp with known razors is difficult and/or laborious and such razors are not conducive to partially or substantially bald men to shave their scalps easily and regularly.
According to the present invention there is provided a razor blade in the lo form of a flexible plate having a cutting edge and a gripping edge, the gripping edge being arranged to be gripped between human fingers or thumb and fingers to enable the fingers or thumb and fingers to bend the razor to a curved shape, the cutting edge being arranged to operate when the blade is drawn across the human body with the gripping edge acting as the leading edge in the direction of movement.
The plate may be parallelogram-shaped in plan view and is preferably substantially rectangular.
Preferably the blade has a first indentation on one face to receive a thumb and indentations on an opposite face spaced either side of the first indentation to receive fingers.
A constructional embodiment of the invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein: Figure 1 shows a plan view of a razor blade according to the present invention; Figure 2 shows a front view of the blade of Figure 1; Figures 3 and 4 show front and rear perspective views; Figure 5 shows the blade in use on a scalp; and Figure 6 shows a detailed view of the blade on the scalp.
The blade 1 shown in Figure 1 is rectangular in plan view and "credit card" sized, that is to say preferably 85mm long and 50mm wide. The blade has a cutting edge and a gripping edge which forms a leading edge in use. The cutting edge is provided with a plurality of apertures 2 forming shaving foam vents through which shaving foam can exude during shaving. The vents are angled away from a central axis of the blade so that foam is ejected sideways. The gripping edge is provided with an indentation or recess 3 on one, e.g. upper, face lo of the blade to receive a thumb and indentations or recesses 4A and 4B on the opposite face of the blade to receive fingers; normally the first and second fingers.
The blade is a flexible plate thin enough to be flexed between the thumb and fingers in the direction of arrows A shown in Figures 3 and 4 to form a curvature suitable for the contour of the scalp. The curved blade is pulled or drawn across the scalp to shave the head in broader strokes than the hitherto known razors for shaving the face.
As shown in detail in Figure 6 the blade has a shaving surface 5. The blade may be of resin, rubber, plastics or ceramics material but is preferably of metal. Any material can be used provided the blade has sufficient flexibility similar to a credit card.
The cutting surface 5 and recesses 3, 4A and 4B could be provided on the shorter sides of the rectangle rather than on the longer sides as shown. The blade could be any suitable shape including circular with a semicircular cutting surface.
There is at least one cutting surface 5 but could be a plurality up to three or four.
The cutting edges may be permanent fixtures and moulded into the blade as it is injection or otherwise moulded; in this case the blade is a disposable item.
However, the blade could be made to receive replacement cutting edges slid into a retaining groove.

Claims (7)
