Abstract

A mounting arrangement comprising a fastening means (13, fig 4) having a portion 14 with a non-circular cross section, said portion 14 having a circumferential groove 16. The mounting arrangement may also comprise a bracket 26 having an arm (28, fig 3) with an arcuate recess (30, fig 3) which in use locates in groove 16 of the fastening means (13). The fastening means (13) may be threadably engageable with an adapter 32 which comprises first and second parts 34, 36 which are rotateable with respect to each other whilst maintaining a fluid tight seal. The mounting arrangement may be used to mount a radiator to a wall and allow the radiator to be tilted away from the wall to allow access there behind, the fastening means (13) and adapter 32 being components of the fluid inlet or outlet of the radiator.

Description

Mounting Assemblv This invention concerns improvements in or relating to
mounting assemblies, and particularly but not exclusively mounting assemblies for central heating radiators.
With central heating radiators, it is often required to remove a radiator from the wall to permit decoration there behind. Rather than total removal, if possible it is generally preferable to pivot the radiators forward so as to provide access therebehind.
According to the present invention there is provided a mounting assembly, the assembly including a fastening means which has an engagement portion with a non-circular cross-section to permit rotational engagement therewith by a tool, with a circumferential groove in the engagement portion to permit rotation of the fastening means about an arcuate bracket which locates in the groove.
The fastening means may include a smaller diameter mounting portion extending from the engagement portion, which mounting portion threadably locates within a pipe. A slot may be provided between the mounting portion and the engagement portion to locate an O ring or other seal therein.
The assembly may also include a bracket mountable on a wall or other fixture, which bracket includes an arcuate portion which supportingly locates in the groove in the fastening means.
The assembly may also include an adaptor including a first part which is threadably locatable within the engagement portion of the fastening means, and a second part which is mountable on a pipe, the first and second parts being rotatable relative to each other whilst substantially maintaining a fluid tight seal between the pipe and the fastening means.
An embodiment of the present invention will now be described by way of example only, and with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. 1 is a diagrammatic side view of part of a mounting assembly according to the invention; Fig. 2 is a diagrammatic side view of part of the assembly in Fig. 1 in a disconnected condition; Fig. 3 is a diagrammatic cross-sectional view on the line X - X of Fig. JO 2; and Fig. 4 is a diagrammatic side view of a component of the assembly of Fig. 1.
The drawings show an assembly 10 suitable for mounting and connecting a central heating radiator (not shown) to an inlet or outlet pipe 12, whilst permitting selective pivoting of the radiator for instance when decorating therebehind. The assembly 10 includes a fastening means 13 with a hexagonal cross section internally threaded engagement portion 14. A circumferential groove 16 is provided in the portion 14 towards the right-hand end thereof as shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 4. A circumferential slot 18 is provided at the left-hand end of the engagement portion 14 as shown in the drawings which can locate an O ring 20. A smaller diameter mounting portion 22 is provided which threadably locates in the inlet or outlet 24 of the radiator.
The assembly 10 includes a mounting bracket 26 mountable on a wall or other fixture. The bracket 26 includes an arm 28 extending in use perpendicularly from the wall and which provides an upwardly facing arcuate recess 30 which rotatingly accepts the groove 16.
An adaptor 32 is also provided mountable on the pipe 12. The adaptor 32 includes a first threaded part 34 which threadingly locates in the engagement portion 14. The adaptor 32 also includes a second part 36 which mounts on the pipe 12. The adaptor 32 is arranged such that the first and second parts 34, 36 can rotate relative to each other whilst maintaining a fluid tight seal relative between the pipe 12 and the fastening means 13. Two further O rings 20 are provided in the adaptor 32 as shown, to maintain the seal.
In use, the assembly 10 is configured as described above to permit water to enter or exit the radiator in a conventional manner. When it is required to pivot the radiator forward to for instance permit decorating, any top JO bracket on the radiator is released or removed, and the radiator can be pivoted forward with the adaptor 32 permitting the relative rotation between the radiator and the pipe 12, whilst maintaining a fluid tight seal therebetween.
The weight of the radiator is born through the groove 16 onto the bracket 26, thereby avoiding weight being placed on the O rings 20 in the adaptor 32.
There is thus described a secure fluid type mounting which enables the weight of the radiator to be safely born, without affecting the fluid connection to the radiator. The construction of the mounting assembly is relatively straightforward, and can thus be inexpensively and robustly manufactured to provide long term maintenance free operation.
It is to be realised that various modifications may be made without departing from the scope of the invention. For instance, whilst in the above example the use of an adaptor is described, it would be possible to mount the fastening means directly between an inlet or outlet pipe, and a radiator. As the radiator pivots, the fastening means would be unscrewed a small amount whilst still being supported on the bracket, which hence bears the weight of the radiator.
Whilst endeavouring in the foregoing specification to draw attention to those features of the invention believed to be of particular importance it should be understood that the Applicant claims protection in respect of any patentable feature or combination of features hereinbefore referred to and/or shown in the drawings whether or not particular emphasis has been placed thereon.
