Abstract
An integrated surgical instrument set and sterile field. Preferably the sterile field is in the form of tent 1 which may be adhesively attached 5 to a surface and pre-packed with surgical instruments. The tent 1 may be inflated via a tubular channel 2 and the surgical team may access the surgical field via slots 4. May provide a sterile operating enclosure.
Description
24 1 0440 The 'TMT' the The majority of surgical operations are performed
in operatin(by a surgical team who use sterile surgical instruments from a set that is open to the surrounding atmosphere. The operative site can become contaminated and infection may occur. The 'TMT' provides a practical solution to the problem of external contamination of the operative site during surgery.
The 'TMT' (Test Marchant Tent) is an integrated self-enclosed surgical
instrument set and sterile field system.
The idea of this concept is that no surface inside the 'TMT' comes into contact with anything outside the 'TMT' throughout the entire duration of surgery. This should decrease the risk of infection and may facilitate surgery performed in this way to be infection-free.
Each operation-specific set is pre-packed with everything needed for the operation.
When the 'TMT' lid is removed the tent is revealed, it's self adhesive surface is attached to the 'prepped' operative site. The 'TMT' is inflated using air blown in via a tubular channel. When the desired pressure is achieved, the air vents through a valve. The transparent material of the tent forms the barrier between the sterile operative site with all of the contents of the 'TMT' and everything outside the 'TMT'. The 'TMT can be used anywhere that has an air supply. i.. . ë
This description is supported with drawings, which are clarified below; e Figure 1 shows the 'TMT' in it's unopened state. :
Figure 2 shows the lid of the set removed revealing the tent ( 1), which encloses everything needed for the specified operation.
.....DTD: Figures 3 and 4 show the 'TMT' ready for use. The surface of the tent in contact with the operative site is self-adhesive (5). Once adhered, the tent is inflated via the tubular channel (2). When the desired pressure is achieved, excess air vents through a valve (3). The surgical team access the surgical
field via side-slots (4).
