Abstract

A pair of palm held steering control knobs are mounted at a comfortable operating level to the rear of a manually steered mobile trolley. Each complete knob rotates 360 degrees about the horizontal plane, with both the operators hands remaining in a fixed position the trolley can be steered in any direction.

Description

2409841 Ernonomic Palm Held Steerinn Handles - For Manually Steered Mobile
Trucks and Trolleys
DESCRIPTION
Backoround The invention relates to improving the steering and manoeuvrability characteristics of mobile truck and trolley type equipment. Reduce manual effort required when steering equipment within confined areas such as narrow aisles and cluttered walkways and thus reducing fatigue and potential hand and wrist injuries.
Existing push/pull handles generally utilise a single horizontal bar such as a shopping trolley and wheelchair or twin vertical bars as seen on many baby buggies and pushchairs. When steering this type of mobile equipment leverage is required from the operator's wrist/hand and the fixed tubular bar/s of the handle have too rotate against the skin of the operators gripped hand.
Features and benefits A pair of palm held pushing/pulling knobs suitably positioned at the rear of a truck/trolley which assist with the steering of the mobile equipment. The complete knob rotates 360 degrees about the horizontal plane and is gripped in the hand of the operator with the operator's palms facing downward.
With both the operators' hands remaining in a fixed position over the left hand and right hand knobs, the trolley can be steered in any direction without the necessity of having to continually reposition the hand and/or wrist in order to steer the equipment in the correct direction. The curved, ball type knob remains static inside the gripped hand with the swivel link encapsulated within the knob rotating in the opposite direction to that which the mobile equipment is being steered towards.
Drawino detail referrals Figure 1, illustrates the right hand palm held steering knob in operation, as the mobile equipment is steered to the left the integral swivel link will rotate in a clockwise direction Figure 2, illustrates the left hand palm held steering knob in operation, as the mobile equipment is steered to the right the integral swivel link will rotate in a anti-clockwise direction Figure 3, illustrates the components of the palm held knob Item 1, the integral swivel link Item 2, the curved palm held upper surface Item 3, the fixing, for connection to mobile equipment Figure 4, palm held steering knobs fitted to typical horizontal bar type handle Figure 5, Typical application for palm held steering knobs - shown fitted to a flat bed trolley
