Abstract

A walking aid comprises a front A-shaped frame with attachments for securing a tether or harness to the frame for the support of a person using the walking aid and two side frames hinged to the front frame such that they can be folded parallel to the front frame when the walking aid is not in use. The legs of the walking aid may be adjustable in height. A removable rear section may be provided to secure the side frames. With the rear section removed the walking aid is accessible by wheelchair.

DISCRIPTION.
ADULT SUPPORT WALKING FRAME.
THE ADULT SUPPORT WALKING FRAME IS DESIGNED WITH STROKE
VICTIMS AND LOWER BODY INJURIES IN MIND.
THIS PIECE OF EQUIPMENT COULD BE OF GREAT BENEFIT TO BOTH
PATIENTS AND PHYSIOTHERAPISTS AROUND THE WORLD,
FIRSTLY THIS WALKING FRAME HAS TETHERS AND A HARNESS WHICH
SUPPORTS A PERSON WHILST RELEARNING TO WALK AND AFFORDING
THAT PERSON A LITTLE FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT OF THEIR OWN AND
WOULD NOT NEED TO BE HELD UP BY TWO PEOPLE,
SECONDLY THIS WOULD ALSO HELP PHYSIOTHERAPISTS AS THEY
WOULD BE LESS LIKELY TO SUFFER PHYICAL STRESS.
THE ADULT SUPPORT WALKING FRAME CAN BE MADE FROM DIFFERENT
TYPES OF METAL MATERIALS FOR EXAMPLE STAINLESS STEEL BOX
OR ROUND TUBING, CHROMED ALUMINIUM, OR PLASTIC COATED TYPES OF METAL TUBING.
THE ADULT SUPPORT WALKING FRAME IS MADE UP IN SECTIONS.
SECTION ONE AS MARKED 1 IN DRAWING 1 OF 5 THIS IS THE FRONT SECTION CALLED THE:A: SECTION, AFFIXED ADJACENT CENTRALY TO THE TOP ARE TWO RINGS, THESE RINGS ARE SUPPORT
RINGS FOR AJUSTABLE TETHERS FOR A HARNESS OF SUITABLE
STRENGTH AND MATERIALS, APPROXIMATELY TWO THIRDS DOWN THE FRONT SECTION IS THE:A
BAR THIS IS THE FORWARD HANDRAIL WHICH IS MADE OF ROUND
TUBING, AT THE LOWER PART OF THE:A: FRAME ADJACENT
THE BOTTOM OF THE FRAME LEGS HOLES ARE DRILLED TO RECIEVE
A TYPE OF SPRING LOADED AJUSTER ATTATCHED WITHIN THE
INNER LEGS WHICH HAVE SWIVVEL WHEELS AFFIXED.
THE TWO SIDE SECTIONS ARE MADE UP LIKE A TYPE OF GATE LEG
THESE ARE SIMILAR BUT NOT EXACTLY THE SAME BECAUSE ONE IS
SLIGHTLY SHORTER WITH LONGER HINGES, THIS IS TO ALLOW THE
GATELEG SECTIONS TO FOLD BACK AGAINST THE A FRAME FOR
SPACE SAVING, THERE ARE ALSO INNER LEGS WITH SPRING
LOADED AJUSTERS AND A NONE SWIVVEL WHEEL ATTATCHED TO
EACH OF THESE SECTIONS.

ADULT SUPPRT WALKING FRAME.
THE REAR SECTION IS SHAPED LIKE DOUBLE LETTER H TURNED
ON ITS SIDE, THIS ALSO HAS A TYPE OF HOOK WITH A SPRING
LOADED TYPE CATCH INCORPERATED ADJACENT TO EACH END AT
THE TOP RAIL, AND JUST HOOKS TO EACH END OF THE BOTTOM RAIL, BUT THIS COULD BE CHANGED TO A TYPE OF HINGE AND LATCH TYPE SYSTEM. SEE DRAWINGS 3 OF 5 AND 4 OF 5.
THE SECTION BETWEEN THE TWO GATELEG SECTIONS IS THE
WALKING AREA. AND WITH THE REAR SECTION REMOVED SHOULD
BE ACCESSABLE TO MOST TYPES OF WHEELCHAIR THUS ENABLING
PHYSIOTHERAPISTS TO ATTATCH TETHERS AND A SUITABLE TYPE
OF HARNESS TO A PERSON, ONCE THIS HAS BEEN DONE THE REAR SECTION CAN THEN BE BE SECURED IN PLACE.

CLAIMS.
ADULT SUPPORT WALKING FRAME.
1. A WALKING FRAME WITH WHEELS AND AJUSTABLE LEGS
THAT CAN SUPPORT A PERSON BY MEANS OF TETHERS AND
HARNESS AND CAN BE FOLDED AWAY AFTER USE.
2. A WALKING FRAME AS IN 1. AND BY DESIGN.

Claims (1)

  1. A WALKING AID COMPRISING,
    A FRONT FRAME INCLUDING A PAIR OF LEG MEMBERS AND A
    SUBSTANTIALLY HORIZONTAL BRACING MEMBER CONNECTING THE
    LEG MEMBERS BETWEEN THE TOP ENDS THEREOF,
    MEANS MOUNTED TO THE BRACING MEMBER SUITABLE FOR THE
    ATTACHMENT OF A TETHER OR HARNESS TO SUPPORT A USER
    OF THE WALKING AID, AND,
    TWO SIDE FRAMES EACH HAVING AT ONE END THEREOF A LEG
    MEMBER AND THE OTHER END THEREOF BEING PIVOTALLY
    ATTACHED TO A RESPECTIVE LEG MEMBER OF THE FRONT FRAME, EACH SIDE FRAME EXTENDING, IN USE, SUBSTANTIALLY
    PERPENDICULARLY TO THE FRONT FRAME AND TOWARD THE REAR
    OF THE WALKING AID, WHEREIN THE SIDE FRAMES ARE SUCH
    THAT THEY CAN BE FOLDED TO A POSITION SUBSTANTIALLY
    PARALLEL TO THE FRONT FRAME WHEN THE WALKING AID IS
    NOT IN USE.
