Abstract

A seat 4 that can provide, both visual and audio, entertainment and information. The information and entertainment may be provided by an interactive positional screen 1 and held on an information database. The audio entertainment and information may be provided through headphones. The seat 4 may comprise a payment mechanism 3 as well as a cup holder 5.

Description

A Seat For Viewing Entertainment Media This invention relates to a chair
with a positional screen attached that allows the occupant to view and listen to selected entertainment media from within a public space The ability to watch a film from a seat on an aircraft, for instance, has been with us for some time. However these systems require a formal layout of seats and offer a limited range of media to view whilst being prescriptive with viewing start times and as such are unsuitable for use within public spaces.
The object of this invention is to allow for an informal placing of viewing seats that allow for a wide range of media to be viewed at a time set by the user.
Accordingly the viewing screen is attached to the seat itself rather than placed in the backrest of the seat in front. Media is accessed via the seat controls and the on screen menu from a multi - layered central database to allow the user to define the start time of broadcast.
A preferred embodiment of this invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings In which: Fig 1. Shows a suggested design for the chair illustrating the chair; the screen (1.) attached via a positionable ball joint (2) the Inclusion of a self-contained payment mechanism (3) and an option to contain a drinks carton (5.) Fig 2. Shows a diagram illustrating the general route of communication between the user and the central database to facilitate the payment (10.), transmission (5. 6. 7. 8.) and viewing (9.) of media held on the database (5. 6.) by the user of the chair.
As shown in fig 1. The invention comprises of a chair with armrests and a viewing screen.
The viewing screen will contain an array of navigation controls to allow management of the on-screen menus, an access point to allow for sound to be reproduced and is attached to the chair with a universal pivot. It is envisioned that the armrests will contain both a method for the user to make a payment transaction for the available media and a containment area to allow the user to securely place a drinks container It is envisioned that the seat will also allow the user to access the Internet and associated services such as e-mail The navigation controls allow the user to access and view media held at a central source.
The universal Joint allows the user to set the screen at a safe and comfortable viewing angle. 2.

  1. Claims 1. A seat designed for a public space that provides both visual and
    audio entertainment and information
  2. 2. A seat designed for a public space as claimed in claim 1. That has a positional screen linked to a computerized interface that allows the occupant to access, view and listen to audio visual entertainment hosted on a database.
  3. 3. A seat designed for a public space as claimed In claim 1. or 2. That allows the occupant to select content from a given choice presented at a start time dictated by the user.
  4. 4. A seat designed for a public space as claimed In claims 1, 2, or 3. With an outlet to allow headphones to be attached
  5. 5. A seat designed for a public space as claimed In claims 1. 2. 3. or 4. That accommodates a payment mechanism to allow access to the media database and a cup holder.
  6. 6. A seat designed for a public space as claimed in the above claims that is capable of the broadcast of advertising content when not in use by a paying customer without consent.
  7. 7. A seat designed for a public space as claimed in the above claims that is capable of displaying information and / or advertising messages with the occupants consent.
