Abstract

A process for treating an underground reservoir, which process comprises (a) introducing into the reservoir, separately or together: (i) and ester, and (ii) a compound containing at least one carboxylae functionality, the compound being water-soluble and capable of increasing the rate of hydrolysis of the ester; each of components (i) and (ii) being contained in a treatment fluid in which it is dissolved or dispersed in water; and (b) allowing the ester to hydrolyse to produce an organic acid in an amount effective to acidise the underground reservoir.
