Abstract

An apparatus for selectively processing a cell broadcast received by a mobile communication device comprises means for determining the geographic coordinates of the mobile communication device 400, means for receiving a cell broadcast 410, means for determining whether the cell broadcast identifies a geographical area to which it is relevant 420, means for comparing the geographic coordinates of the mobile communication device with the geographical areas defined identified in the cell broadcast 440, and a means for processing the cell broadcast in dependence on the coordinates of the unit falling within the area identified in the cell broadcast 430.
