Abstract
A heating system (1) having a plurality of zones (2, 3, 4, 5), connected in a fluid circuit including a boiler (6) and a pump (7) has separate flow control devices (8, 9, 10, 11) for each zone (2, 3, 4, 5). Each device (8, 9, 10, 11) operable via a control unit (39) to vary the flow in the associated zone (2, 3, 4, 5) independently of the other zones to achieve a desired temperature in each zone (2, 3, 4, 5). Each device (8, 9, 10, 11) is similar and comprises a rotor member (28) coupled to a motor (33) operable under the control of the control unit (39). The motor (33) can increase or reduce rotational speed of the rotor member (28) to achieve the required flow rate for the desired temperature in the associated zone (2, 3, 4, 5). The rotor member (28) may incorporate an on/off valve (16) to enable the associated zone to be isolated from the fluid circuit.
