Abstract

Trousers for outdoor use, for example by golfers and gardeners, have a layer of waterproof material (4) surrounding and secured to the calf portion of each trouser leg.

TROUSERS
The present invention relates to trousers for outdoor use for example, by golfers and gardeners who walk through long wet grass from time to time.
An object of the invention is to avoid the need for gaiters or Wellington boots.
The present invention provides trousers for outdoor use in which the calf portion of each leg carries an outer waterproof layer permanently attached thereto. The waterproof layer in practice extends only over the portion of the leg below the wearer's knee and thus, does not impede walking.
The invention will now be further described by way of example in more detail, with reference to the drawing in which the single figure is a side view of the leg portion of trousers in accordance with the invention.
The trousers shown in the drawing are largely of conventional construction, being made of normal textile material and extending downwards to a hem (2) at the bottom of the trouser leg, the trouser leg incorporating a seam (3) in the conventional manner.
A layer of flexible waterproof material (4) surrounds the calf portion of the trouser leg and is secured to it either by bonding, for example, by a suitable adhesive, or 2s by an upper seam (5) a lower seam (6) and a partial seam (7) securing overlapping edges of the waterproof material (4).
The seam (7) preferably coincides with the seam (3).
The upper edge (8) of the waterproof layer (4) is positioned to lie just below the wearer's knee. - 2 -

Claims (3)

1. Trousers for outdoor use in which the calf portion of each leg carries an outer waterproof layer permanently attached thereto.
2. Trousers according to claim 1 in which the waterproof material is sewn to the material of the trouser leg.
3. Trousers according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the waterproof material is bonded to the material of the trouser leg.
