Abstract

A method of cold welding foam to produce tape 13 comprises cold rolling to define a seam / web 17, 18 along which the tape may be torn, wherein the foam is passed between a backing and rotary blades, in which the rotary blades are notched to from weld webs that have thin, easily tearable sections 17 and between those sections, thick sections 18 that are not as easy to tear. Preferably the method is used to produce several masking tapes at the same time, each masking tape having a detachable bead. Roller discs with notches / recesses (19, figure 5) preferably form the seam between the tape body and bead, while the seam between individual tapes is may be made by similar rollers, or rollers without notches. A masking tape comprising a body part and a tear-off bead is also claimed, and may be used in vehicle refinishing. Figure 2 shows the plan view of an individual masking tape.
