Abstract

A spade with a detachable lifting-aid comprises a spade blade 1 having raised side portions 3 which are opposing and have apertures 2 there through. The lifting aid has two support members 7 having spigots 6 at one end of each support. The spigots are inserted into the apertures 2 to allow rotation of the spade and/or lifting-aid. The material surrounding the bearing provides a limit stop face 3 against which protrusions 5 positioned at one end of each support member come to bear to restrict rotation of the support members. The lifting-aid helps to reduce the risk of back injury.
