Abstract

248,887. Thorne, G. Jan. 30, 1925. Lawns &c., removing rubbish from.-Apparatus for cleaning the lines or tapes of hard tennis courts &c. comprises a framework mounted on grooved rollers and carrying a rotary brush made of approximately the same width as the lines or tapes and driven in a direction opposite to that of the driving roller, the front end of the framework being supported in such a way as to allow of the brush being forced downwards without lifting the driving roller. The framework is provided with handles 4, 4a and consists of side plates 2, 2a and cross rails 3, 3a. The brush 6 is driven from the main roller 8 by a crossed belt 9, the hub of the brush and the central part of the roller 8 being grooved or reduced in diameter to accommodate the belt 9. The shaft of the brush may be adjustably mounted. The front of the frame is supported on a grooved roller 11 carried by pivoted arms 12, 12a guided by brackets 14, 14<a> and normally held in place by springs 13, 13<a> which yield when the brush is pressed downwards by means of the handles to cause the bristles to spread and sweep a broader path. In a modification the roller 11 is carried by sliding arms 'controlled by adjustable springs. A tank may be mounted on the frame or between the handles from which water may pass through a tube to the brush.
