Abstract

A method of alerting the driver of a vehicle (10) an accident risk comprises the steps of measuring vehicle data, categorising the risk of an accident based on the data and driving conditions and alerting the user if the categorized risk is above a predetermined level. The vehicle data preferably includes acceleration data, vehicle velocity and location (preferably using a GPS) or data derived from the location, acceleration or vehicle velocity. The data may also include angel of turn of the vehicle. The conditions data may gathered separately of the vehicle and may include weather data, speed camera locations, sunset and sunrise time or accident blackspot locations data. Vehicle data may be may be sent to a server for processing. In a further embodiment the step of alerting the user may be replaced by sending a message to the registered owner of the vehicle.
