Abstract
A pastry or pie weight suitable for blind baking comprises a silicone rubber bag, a silicone rubber handle 1.2, a ventilation hole 1.1 and is filled with a particulate material such as beans or a ceramic material. The handle may be injection moulded to the bag and the particles are heat proof and non toxic.
Description
Baking Bean Bag Title [1] Baking Bean Bag'
Background of the Invention
[2] The present invention relates to a baking apparatus to be used in the process of blind baking for use in domestic and commercial environments and in particular is designed to be made from a silicone casing that eliminates the need for protective coverings such as baking paper.
[3] Blind baking apparatus that consist of a form of weight device attachable to the pastry dish are known in the art. Furthermore baking apparatus used for the purposes of moulding the crusts of pastry dishes are also known in the art.
[4] For example, US2003183089 to Blackburn et al discloses an adjustable one-piece round pie weight used to bake unfilled crusts in a pan or dish or to bake unfilled free-form crusts.
[5] Furthermore, GB284104 to Dora discloses a pie-crust support comprising two members, one a domed cover with a narrow flat rim which fits on the rim of the dish, and the other a loose rim with a downwardly-projecting flange which fits over both rims and clamps the cover to the dish. During cooking, the crust adheres to the upper side of the rim and can be removed therewith as a unit, thus allowing the cover to be removed before carving.
[6]Furthermore, GB89l77l8 to Korczynski discloses a method of manufacturing crusted pie casing whereby a flat piece of pastry or dough or similar material, is placed on the outside of an upside-down mould, for example a baking tin. The pastry or dough is of a larger size than the mould (e.g. of a larger diameter) so that it fits over the mould. With the tin still upside-down, the pastry or dough material is baked in a normal manner on the mould. A weight, for example a wire tray, may be placed on top of the pastry or dough during baking to prevent the crust separating from the rest of the pastry or dough and forming an air bubble. A pastry or bread shell is produced with a crust on the outside and softer material on the inside.
[7] Furthermore, tJS562073l to Mckee discloses A method of par-baking a foodstuff includes the steps of providing a raw foodstuff having a generally planar top surface, the foodstuff once par-baked being adapted for a completion of the cooking with a topping on the top surface thereof. A topping-substitute having a thermal insulation value corresponding generally to that of the topping is disposed on the top surface of the foodstuff. The foodstuff is par-baked with the topping-substitute thereon, and the topping-substitute is then removed from the par-baked foodstuff.
[8] Furthermore, W0200170086 to Scannell discloses a system for producing par-baked pizza crusts includes a pan formed from a unitary sheet of metal. The pan includes a number of recesses stamped into the sheet of metal, each recess being adapted to receive a corresponding dough portion. The pan also includes a ledge formed around a perimeter of the pan. The system for producing par-baked pizza crusts further includes a lid assembly formed from a unitary sheet of metal for use in conjunction with the pan.
Brief Summary and Advantages of the Invention
[9] The preceding demonstrates the purpose served by the baking apparatus used in blind baking enabling the production of the pastry from a heat proof, hygienic bag that varies in size and can be used both domestic and commercially.
[10] It would be advantageous for the Baking Bean Bag to be made from silicone so that it acts as a suitable insulator whilst withstanding hot temperatures and is food safe.
[11] It would be preferable for the Baking Bean Bag to be available in a variety of sizes, large, medium and small.
[12] It would be preferable for the Baking Bean Bag to contain an air ventilation hole to ensure that the hot air can expand and contract within the apparatus.
[13] It would be advantageous for the Baking Bean Bag to contain some form of weighting to perform its function of moulding the pastry.
[13] It would be preferable for the Baking Bean Bag to contain beads to act as weights made from a heat proof, non toxic material such as ceramic.
[14] It would be advantageous for the Baking Bean Bag to contain a handle that allows for the user to easily place and remove the apparatus when baking.
[15] It would be preferable for the Baking Bean Bag to be able to be wiped clean for hygiene purposes.
[16] It would be preferable for the baking bean bag to be able to contract and expand to fit various dish sizes with its flexible outer casing.

Detailed Description of the Invention
[22] A Baking Bean Bag comprising a silicone rubber bean bag, silicone rubber handle, air ventilation hole, beans.
[23] The Baking Bean Bag (figure 2) consists of a circular silicone rubber outer casing that is food safe and non toxic to ensure its suitability when used to mould pastry dishes.
[24] The circular baking bean bag (figure 1) is injection moulded to bond together it's upper and lower circular sections to create its rounded bag shaped structure. The circular bean bag has integrated an arched semi circular silicone rubber handle (figure 5, 1.2) that is located across the top of the Baking Bean Bag stretching across its diameter for use when inserting and removing the Baking Bean Bag into and from the cooking medium.
[25] The heatproof properties of the silicone rubber ensure that it can withstand temperatures for up to 315 degrees Celsius for insertion within the oven with its high insulation functioning enabling the user to operate the silicone rubber handle (1.2) in the short space of time after removal from the oven. The smooth exterior of the silicone rubber bean bag enables the product to be wiped clean to ensure it is sufficiently hygienic for use with food products.
[26] The circular shape and the stretching properties of the Baking Bean Bag ensures that it is able to expand and contract sufficiently to adapt to the various dish sizes that it will be placed within.
[27] The internal properties of the Baking Bean Bag comprise of a large number of small circular beans that are located within the bean bags silicone rubber interior. These beads will be comprised of a solid weighty material, for example ceramic, to ensure that the Baking Bean Bag can function as a mould to the pastry dish when blind baking as the weights will apply pressure onto the base of the dish filling the flat shape of the dish.
[28]Figure 5 displays the circular meshed air ventilation hole (1.1) that is located at the top centre of the Baking Bean Bag towards the front. The circular air ventilation hole (1.1) ensures that the hot air released from the Baking Bean Bag can be compressed or extracted through the hole, as the heat can be transmitted from the small passage.
